8 Fun Things to do at Om beach, Gokarna

Gokarna is one of the beautiful beach destinations in India. Still untouched by the Indian tourists, it has the real beach essence, not like Goa.
Om beach of Gokarna is one of the most famous beaches. Accessible by foot, motorboat and via road, the name says it all. The beach is in the Om shape (ॐ) which can be seen atop from the Kudle beachside or either from half moon beachside. It is the second most visited beach of Gokarna after Kudle beach. You can do a lot of things on this beach:

Namaste Cafe at OM Beach

The only cafe on Om beach which is famous for its food, shacks and ambiance. The cafe is right on the northern side of the beach once you enter the beach from Kudle beachside. Mostly you will find a place to sit but on long weekends or on public holidays it gets too crowded and one has to wait for their turn. Must try thing is Prawns pizza and Oreo KitKat milkshake.

Water sports at Om Beach

Unlike Kudle beach which doesn’t have water activities to do. At Om beach, you will find many water activities. A banana boat ride will cost somewhere between ₹400 to ₹500 and if you’re good at bargaining, it might help you. There is also a bumper boat ride which cost the same as a banana boat ride.

Dolphin view

Gokarna has the cleanest beaches in South India and because of this one can go for dolphin spotting boat rides. Usually, if you take a boat ride which includes a two-hour tour of all the beaches starting from Kudle, Om, Half Moon and Paradise and returns to Kudle. In this, they usually take you for dolphin spotting. And the charges differ as per the season between ₹500 to ₹700.

Fishing

If you love to do fishing then this beach is the perfect place. As the beach is not that crowded, you can find big rocks near the shore. On the other end of the beach you can easily find a good spot for fishing.

Hiking

The only thing which most travellers like about Gokarna is beach hiking. Travellers save a lot of money on transportation unlike like Goa or other beach destination where they have to rent a vehicle. Here in Gokarna, all the beaches are accessible on foot. Om beach is in the middle of Kudle and Half moon beach.

Camping

There is a reason why Gokarna is on the top of every beach lover’s list. Gokarna is a safe town as compared to Goa and other towns in Karnataka. Here you can even camp on any beach and camping on the beach is one of the best things while visiting Gokarna. You can pitch your tent and save a lot of money on your hotel or guest house stays.

Yoga

Yoga on the beach is one of the things to do while visiting Gokarna. You will find many of the foreign tourists doing yoga on the beach. Here the beaches are not crowded and it is easy to concentrate and perform yoga. There are many big rocks on every beach where you can sit and do yoga.

Shack

Shack stay is a must do things while visiting the beach destination. But sometimes the shack costs a lot more than a hotel or guest houses stay. Here in Gokarna the best thing is you can stay in the shack for as low as ₹500 per night that too on the beach.

Gokarna is known or called as a temple town beside its famous beaches. Mahaganpati and Mahabaleshwar temple are the most famous temples in the whole town. These temples are located in the main market area of the town. There are timings for these temples so make sure you visit this temple on time while visiting Gokarna.
