Bossa caban stay Sri Lanka

24 Hours at a beach hut cabana at Boossa, Sri Lanka

Always wondered what it must feel like to sleep and wake up with the sound of the ocean? While in Sri Lanka, if you’re looking for something offbeat in Hippie terms then a must-try is the cabana beach hut stay at Boossa in the southern part of Sri Lanka.  But then again as a backpacker that’s something which we always assume is way out of the budget.

At Boossa, you will find beach shack cabanas of various price ranges. Starting as low as $8 which includes a wooden hut, charging port and a bed (you won’t find a fan in the budget cabanas). The washrooms are common; you can’t really expect anything more at that cost. The bed and the sheets are clean so that’s one thing you won’t have to worry about. Sri Lanka’s value tourists and hence you won’t have to bother about bed bugs.

The minute you check into the cabana, you’ll be blown away no matter what you have read or seen on videos. None will make any difference to the first hand feel you get of the sound of the ocean and the cool breeze clubbed with the excitement that this will be your home for the next 24-48 hours if not more.

While at these cabanas, the whole vibe is to chill at the beach shacks which are attached to each and every cabana stay. You can read a book, sleep in the shade or go for a swim but this will honestly be the most laid back you will ever feel in the entire journey. The whole setup of these cabanas is the lazy beach feel.

Bossa night cabana vibe

A typical 24 hours in the cabana includes waking up for a late breakfast, yes even though you don’t have a fan or air conditioning the sea breeze is more than enough to give you sound sleep. It’s more the tiredness from the previous night partying which is a common thing when you stay at the beachside which helps in getting the longer sleep.

So each cabana at Boossa has pretty much their own small all-night party going on. With a handful of huts and a house party is pretty much a daily event at each and every place. Most of the backpackers end up chilling together exchanging travel stories and tips or playing a game of cards while sipping on some chilled beer and local Sri Lankan food.

The sunsets from the cabanas are pretty magical, you’ll get to see the either surface of the ocean turn from yellow to orange and then deep maroon before it sinks into the sea and the day turns to night.

If art is your thing then make sure you get some of your tools along. This is the kind of place which will bring out the best in you. Everything from the entrance door to the cabana huts and even the tools and tables you sit on is all DIY and trust me when we say this, it’s some of the best you will come across.

These wooden beach huts are located all along the road adjusting to the beach in a lesser-known village of Boossa. But remember the cabana stays are only meant for backpackers who are ready to stay a night or two without modern-day luxuries is must while in Boossa
