Budget backpacker road trip for 11 days to Leh Ladakh
Here is The Land Of Wanderlust’s blueprint to a road trip through the Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh, which is also known for its barren rugged mountains, beautiful monasteries and funny road captions.

Things to carry along:
- Valid Photo id proof with address – 5 copies. (No Pan card)
- Two passport size photographs.
- Essentials to pack.
Day 1:
Day 2:
- Reach Manali by 09:00 HRS, check into guest house near Old Manali.
- Post lunch visit the hot spring village of Vashist or spend time chilling in Old Manali.
Day 3:
- Leave early in the morning by local bus to cross the world famous Rothang Pass and the reach the town of Keylong. (118 km = 6-8 hours)
- Spend night in a guest house.
Day 4:
- Take the early morning bus for Leh Ladakh. (375 km = 12-14 hours)
- Reach Leh post afternoon and check into a home stay accommodation.
- Spend rest of the evening relaxing or wander through the lanes of Leh.
Day 5:
- After breakfast, leave for local site seeing around Leh Ladakh.
- Visit the monasteries of Shey – Thiksey – Hemis.
- Return back to the guest house around 18:00 HRS.
Day 6:
- Leave early in the morning to visit the villages of Hunder and Diskit in Nubra Valley via Khardung La. (The highest motorable road in the world, 18,380 ft)
- Reach Hunder, post lunch and check into a guest house. (128 km = 4-6 hours)
- Visit the sand dunes in Diskit and later visit Diskit Monastery.
- Return back to the guest house in Hunder by 18:00 HRS.
Day 7:
- Post breakfast leave for a 167km five hour drive to the beautiful Pangong Tso.
- Reach Pangong Tso post lunch.
- Check into our home stay at Tangse for the night.
- Spend the rest of the evening at leisure chilling by the lake.
Day 8:
- After breakfast, pack up and return back to Leh Ladakh by crossing Chang La pass.
- Reach Leh Ladakh post noon and check into the home stay.
- Spend rest of the evening in Leh wandering the streets or unwind at the home stay.
Day 9:
- Board the early morning bus back to Keylong.
- Reach Keylong by 17:00 HRS.
- Spend night in a guest house.
Day 10:
- Board the early morning bus to Manali via Rothang Pass.
- Reach Manali by 11:00 HRS. Board a local HRTC Volvo bus from Manali to New Delhi at around 17:30 HRS.
Day 11:
- Reach New Delhi by 09:00 HRS.
