Why travel to the North East of India? Hear it from our past travellers

Each one of us wants to travel, be it to get a break from what we are doing, to celebrate important milestones, to recover from a setback and sometimes it is just to add a place to our travel list. While it’s easy to have an urge to travel, deciding a place and planning your trip to the destination is difficult. We get highly influenced by what we see and read on the internet and sometimes what we hear from our friends.

Ornages in Meghalaya

In our endeavour to curate the best travel experience and before we charted out our marketing plans for this year’s season of North East, we decided to do a small survey. The sample for this survey was 90 travellers who had travelled with TLOW to the North East last season. Surprisingly, more than 90% of them had travelled to the North East of India for the first time.

The survey had two parts. The first was to know what the major factors were that influenced their decision to travel to the North East as a destination and the second part was specific to their decision of travelling with The Land of Wanderlust.  When we asked what their major concern or roadblock was before booking a travel to North East, around 40% of the respondents mentioned safety issues and 26% of them mentioned the unavailability of good food, especially vegetarian. What the survey also brought to light were concerns around the accommodation.

We also asked our participants about what influenced their decision to travel to the North East of India. Over 60% of the respondents mentioned that the beautiful landscapes were most enticing aspect, followed by the 30% who wanted to experience the region’s culture.

In the second part of the survey, we asked some TLOW-specific questions. The questions centered around what their concerns were before choosing to travel with TLOW for the North East. Around 40% mentioned that they were not sure about the idea of travelling with strangers. 20% of them were doubtful of our credibility and the other 20% weren’t familiar with backpacking.

When asked about what confirmed their decision to travel with TLOW, around 65% mentioned that the idea of backpacking coupled with our trip blueprint (itinerary) was unique for them. More than 20% found our trip cost to be cheaper in comparison to similar brands in the same space. 20% had already travelled with us to other destinations or had heard from their friends about us. We can proudly say that more than 94% of the respondents loved the travel experience with TLOW in the North East and wanted to travel with us again.

We have also listed a few testimonials from our past travellers that highlight the TLOW experience for them. Excerpts…

Trip: Assam Meghalaya

What he liked: I loved the road trip and especially the adventure while we were on our way to Dawki. It was a raw backpacking experience and I loved it

What his fear was: It was my first trip with TLOW and I didn’t know what to expect.

What he liked about TLOW in specific: It was more like an experience and not a trip. That was the best part.

Trip: Assam, Meghalaya & Arunachal Pradesh

What she liked: Everything from Majuli- the bamboo hut stay, the local beer at home, the food and the Swades (movie) type journey through the river to reach Majuli was memorable. Meghalaya was crazy fun. I decided to do another trip to Tawang on this trip itself. The crazy discussion of Arunachal Pradesh had already started in Shillong.

What her fear was:  Fear of backpacking or travelling like bhed bhakri 😛

What she liked about TLOW in specific: Thank you Sherwin and TLOW for making my North-East India trip the best one with the best people. The drone shots were especially remarkable. My pre-wedding shoot discussion on the trip too has been crazy. Lots of love and best wishes to TLOW, wishing you success.
