11 awesome reasons Nepal for the lazy backpacker

The Himalayan tiny country of Nepal has long been the go to place for adventure junkies from all over the world. The reason behind this has been Mount Everest, the highest point on planet Earth.  But this does not mean that everyone who comes to the country has only adventure treks and mountaineering to contend with.

Nepal has a laid back chilled vibe to the whole country from the minute you exit the airport which is pretty chaotic to say the least.

If you resonate with the title of this blog post and feel you are a lazy traveller who does not like the adrenaline rush of climbing mountains and staying in tents and sleeping bags at high altitude then don’t worry. Nepal as a country has a lot of you to explore and experience of your a non adventurous person.

Food

Without doubt the country has easily the best food from all the Himalayan countries. This isn’t in terms of variety but purely in terms of quality and taste. The Nepalis are wizards in the kitchen and when you travel to the country, make sure you carry a special budget money and some time to go around the place cafe and food hopping.

Shopping

The world of first copy branded products originated in Nepal and it’s here that you will find everything you’re looking for and much more. The streets of Kathmandu and Pokhara are paradise for shoppers. Trust me on this, you will end up buying an extra bag to carry your extra shopping load back.

Stay

Accommodation is in plenty from 4 and 5 star hotels and resorts to budget home stays and guest houses. You’ll end find a house of hostels. But always opt for a home stay since living with a local will come very handy to escape the extra mile of trying to figure it out.

Temples

Yes, Nepal is all about the Hindu temples and Buddhist monasteries. It’s a great way to get an experience of the culture and heritage of this Himalayan country.  Durbar square is one such temple complex in Kathmandu that you can’t afford to skip.

People

Oh how can we forget the humans of Nepal. Warm, kind and giving that’s the best way to describe the human vibe of the Nepalese. You won’t find a single bad soul on your journey through Nepal unless you act stupid and cause trouble. Nepalese are some of the kindest people in the world.

Art

You’ll find abstract art all over the walls and streets of Nepal. But this art has a deep hidden meaning to each and every wall of colour. They make for a perfect photo booth to take pictures of things which bring simple walls alive.

Music

Street musicians can be found all over the alleys of Kathmandu and Pokhara primarily because it’s a hippie country with a free spirit and music is the best translator of this. So when you are in Nepal, make sure you spend time at these street artistes because everyone is an artiste in their own right.

Pizza

A special mention because without a second doubt, Nepal has arguably the most number of pizza parlours. It’s astonishing for the number of pizza outlets that are there in Nepal especially in Kathmandu and Pokhara. If you’re a pizza lover this is pizza country.

Sadhus

These holy men are all over Kathmandu Durbar square and are always open to a friendly chat. But remember to distinguish between the real and fake ones. The fake sadhus will always ask you for money.  The real ones will always talk about life and things beyond material things.

Boating

A trip to down town Pokhara is where you can experience a beautiful sunset boat ride. It’s a very nice way to soak in all that Nepal has to offer from a backpacker point of view. Don’t leave Pokhara without a boat ride.

Night life

Oh yes, how could we forget about the night life in Nepal. It’s bustling after dark and the place will come alive. If you are the party freak, then Thamel and Pokhara are the two places where you can let your hair loose and party till the cold gets the better of you.
