11 brilliant things to do when you are stuck in a roadblock

When you’re on a road trip, roadblocks or traffic jams are a default and the best way to not get grumpy during these testing times is to actually find something to keep your mind distracted with. Listed below are some easy and simple ways to be productive during a road block.

Listen to music in a road block

The best and the most convenient way to pass time is to simply get plugged into your playlist and let time pass listening to some of your favourite music tracks while you’re stuck in a roadblock on your holiday.

Read a book

If you’re the kind who always carries a book on the road, then this a perfect opportunity to open the book and start reading. Reading when the vehicle is in motion is always a challenge so take advantage of this unscheduled stop and try to finish a few pages or a chapter depending on how long the roadblock is for.

Organise your phone apps in a roadblock

Around 90% use their phones in an unorganised way. If you’re someone who has an unorganised phone, remember you’ll be wasting a lot of time just getting to the app you need. Use this roadblock as a time to rearrange your phone so things are smoother for you.

Delete unwanted images and videos

Phone storage is pretty much the single reason many of us struggle to keep important files on our phone. A major reason, we end up falling short of storage is because our phones have a lot of junk content in terms of videos and photos which get accumulated over a period of time from various apps. We don’t ever end up deleting most of this content. A good 30-40% storage can be retrieved by just clearing outdated content. A roadblock is a great opportunity to clean your phone.

Reduce email junk

Each day we all get at least 20 random emails which are just newsletters or promotional offers from various brands and companies. Similar to the storage in our phones these emails end up spamming our inbox. Sit and delete emails as much as you can to reduce the junk in your inbox and unsubscribe to newsletters which are not of any use to you any more.

Shoot a time lapse

You’re stuck in one place and have nothing to do till the road opens. It’s the best time to take a time lapse by placing your camera on a tripod and shooting the movement around. It’s definitely an easy and interesting piece of content to create while on the road.

Take a picture/selfie

A road block does not mean you can’t step out and take a few pictures to add to your memory log. A group picture or a selfie with the long line of piled up vehicles is definitely worth a capture.

Talk to strangers

When it’s a roadblock, you’ll always find people who are stepping out of their vehicles to check on what’s happening or to light up a smoke. Get chatting with them to understand a bit more about the roadblock and their journey around your holiday destination.

Eat or drink something

Take this break to have a snack or sip on some water. It’s during road trips that we usually end up eating and drinking less than what your normal intake is. So when a roadblock hits, remember to sip some water and have some snacks.

Browse the news

While on holiday, we always end up missing out on what’s happening in the real world. It’s the time we take to disconnect with the world. But it’s always good to keep a tab of what’s happening in and around us, by flipping through the news to get a better understanding of what is currently happening.

Get some sleep

For those who can’t sleep in a moving vehicle because of the road bumps and movement, a road block is a sleep sign from the gods. Grab your neck pillow and catch up on some much needed sleep till the road opens again.
