Alleppey Houseboat stay: 24 hours experience

While in the town of Alleppey, the must-do is spending a night or two on the backwaters in a houseboat. The journey starts at around 11 am and ends the next day at around the same time. Be sure to bargain for a good deal while you fix your houseboat stay.

The stay includes lunch, tea, dinner and breakfast in addition to a welcome drink and snacks. The rooms are clean with hot water and a western toilet. There is also an air conditioner in the bedroom from 9 pm to 6 am.

On the backwater houseboat ride, there will be a cook to prepare your meals and a captain to steer the boat who will accompany you. Post dinner, both will park the houseboat along the backwater shore. This is when the air conditioning works from a local house where the mains are connected.

The next day, at around 7 am the morning ride commences which is a great time to bird watch. The backwaters are a beautiful place to experience nature at its best. There are often decks on top of the houseboat where one can sit and see the splendor.

The paddy fields, coconut trees and men practising snake boat races is a must-see while in the houseboat. There are stretches also where people own their own boats and women also row these.

A visit to the local fish market is a must when on the houseboat. The prices are high but the variety of fish is good and a must-see. The houseboat stay is a memorable experience and is a must-do when in the Venice of India. The food is also authentic and a plus.
