10 places to visit in Lonavala-Khandala in Maharashtra
Lonavala and Khandala are a perfect place to visit for families, couples and groups from Mumbai and Pune. There are a number of places in the twin hill stations that are a must visit.

1. Bushi dam:
A must visit, this dam is a must see and experience in Lonavala especially during the monsoons. The dam overflows and is an absolute treat.
2. Khandala lake:
In the heart of Khandala is the lake with a small garden, steps and seats to sit by and enjoy an evening when in the hill station. There is also a waterfall installation and camel ride that is available. On the road outside is a food stall filled, Khao galli for those who like eating roadside treats. Lonavala lake is also worth visiting.
3. Karla Caves:
Located near Lonavala, these caves offer a great view of Lonavala. They are a good reminder of the history of Buddhist times. Though all the caves are not accessible, visiting this historic site is a must. There are also other caves -Bhaja and Bedse which also have good Buddhist workmanship as well as nice view of nature.
4. Sunset point:
The sunset point near Tungarli dam is a beautiful place with a view of the dam and the Mumbai-Pune expressway on the other flanked by the superb Sahyadris.
5. Wax museums:
There are a couple of wax museums in the two hill stations which allow one to witness what one would at Madame Tussauds. The wax statues and sets are commendable and these have other museums and activities nearby which are worth indulging in.
6. Dinosaur Park, Lonavala:
The dinosaur park in Lonavala is a nice place to visit for people with children as they will have a good time seeing some lifesize dinosaur installations. There are also activities that one can do which adds to the appeal.
7. Lohagad fort:
The iron fort is a testimony to history and a must visit for those who like history. The fort offers a wonderful view of Pawna lake and the Sahyadri mountains. Rajmanchi and Visapur forts too is a good place to trek to and see similar wonderful sights.
8. Pawna lake:
The beautiful Pawna dam is a marvel and one will be spellbound by what one sees. The cool water and camping sites nearby offer a present that is marvellous.
9. Points:
Like all hill stations, both Lonavala and Khandala offer some great points that offer the wonder of the Sahyadris that are worth seeing. Rajmanchi, lion, tiger, duke’s nose points are some of them.
10. Waterfalls:
The monsoon starts a number of wonderful waterfalls across Lonavala and Khandala. Kune falls is one worth mentioning. Across the Mumbai-Pune expressway also some of these are formed and make for a wonderful drive from one city to the other.
