10 Fun things to do in Malvan

A heaven for beach lovers, Malvan has many things to do for one and all. Here are the must-do when in this sunny side.

1. Scuba dive

Undoubtedly the number one on the list is to go down under and see the flora and fauna that the Arabian Sea has to offer in Malvan. Any of the beaches make for a good scuba diving spot with many companies offering the service around the Chivla, Malvan, Tarkarli and Devbag beaches. Be sure to bargain to get a good deal as they tend to overprice.

2. Eat seafood

The prawns, crab, pomfret, king fish, shell fish and other fish delicacies are delicious. Name the fish and it tastes as well as costs fabulous in Malvan. The authentic Konkan cuisine with the curries and the fried fish makes it truly finger-licking good. The solkadi that accompanies the food is delicious as well.

3. Fort view

The view of the Arabian Sea and Malvan city from Sindhudurg Fort is spell-binding. The fort does not have a lot to see in it, but the view from it is stunning. The fort walls are well maintained and stand for the history that it represents. The boat ride also offers one an opportunity to see some dolphins along the way.

4. Water sports

Banana boat, paragliding, parasailing, zorbing and all the other water sports that have made Goa famous are available at a much economical rate in Malvan. All beaches in the beach town offer the fun at the beach experience and bargaining is a good tool to have to get a good deal with more time on each of the adventure sport outings.

5. Sunset glimpses

Watching the sunset at Rock Garden is a beautiful experience as the sea is mellow and the waves crash against the tetrapods and rocks. All the beaches of Malvan also offer a splendid sunset view as well.

6. Spot dolphins

The Malvan coast is famous for the aquatic mammals popping out every now and then especially around sunrise. Morning fort visitors witness the glory of a leaping dolphin while on their way to Sindhudurg. Another place to spot dolphins is the Karli River and Arabian Sea sangam.

7. Buy kokum

The essence of Malvani dishes and the entire cuisine is the use of kokum. Make sure to buy some of it to take home the flavour of the coastal town. The Malvan market is filled with shops that sell kokum fruit as well as the juice.

8. Flavoured drinks

It is filled with little pop up shops all around the market area, the beaches as well as near Rock Garden that serve some very delicious water based flavoured drinks. These are sold for Rs 10 and are very refreshing after a long and tiring day. If you like the flavours, you can also buy the pulp bottles from the market and take them home to enjoy with water or soda.

9. Collect shells

The beaches are filled with shells of interesting shapes, colours and sizes. They make for a good collection for those who like it. An early morning walk on the seashore is ideal to collect some of the best collectables.

10. Take some Malvani Khaja home

The jaggery sweet stick is a famed take from Malvan for the folks back home. Known as Malvani Khaja every person in Malvan will suggest that visitors buy this and take it for family and friends. For those who have a sweet tooth or like jaggery, this is good to buy.
