Kashid beach camping

10 Fun things to do in Kashid, Maharashtra

Do you ever feel like there is a lot you could do on a beach but don’t know how to manage your time and pace? We have listed 10 things you can do at our Kashid beach campsite.

1. Take the sea route:

We are so bound to land transport which includes rickshaws, buses, taxis, cars etc. There are MSRTC buses to Alibaug but if you need a change in transport to reach the beach haven, then take a ferry from Gateway of India. Unlike the bus roof being covered, the ferry ride gives you open access to limitless sea views as you go further from the land. You will witness huge mineral ships and oil containers. Seagulls will accompany you throughout your ride on the ferry as long as you have food with you. You can actually see them up close.

2. Gorge on a fish thali in Kashid

Surmi thali

Everyone knows that one can find authentic coastal cuisine in the Konkan region. As fishing is their main occupation, they have developed recipes that could beat international seafood dishes. Trying out a fish thali is a must for anyone and everyone visiting the Konkan region.

3. Try some water sports:

Which is the sport that cannot be performed on land or air? Water sports! That’s right, another reason why people come to this part of the state. They have variations of water sports ranging from water skiing, banana boat rides, jet-skiing, bumper ride, speed boat rides and sea kayaking. A new addition to it is parasailing. Experience all this in Kashid.

4. Salt rim:

The shore is perched with white sand being in constant contact with the Arabian Sea. Tall afforested trees being in the background with the sunrise and the sea-facing view in combination with a lovely sunset makes it a spectacular art of God.

5. Visit Korlai Fort:

This fort was built as a fortification to the unpopular village Korlai in Maharashtra. It was built on an island that guards the Revdanda creek. The fort is an average of 2828 feet long and 89 feet wide. Originally on the slope, tea plantation were of main essence but later after 1966, Ear leaf acacia, cashew and casuarina were grown. Earleaf is grown as an ornamental tree while casuarina commonly known as ironwood or she-oak were grown for agricultural purposes mainly for lowering the soil pH.

6. Tent stay:

Apart from being away from urban civilisation, you can take a nap in our tent setups. These tents add to the essence of what camping actually is. Besides, you won’t get another chance to sleep in a tent. Tents are meant for two people but there are some huge tents that can accommodate four people as well. Live on the beach for a night and experience true wanderlust.

7. Watch the sunset from a hammock:

These add to your beach camp experience. They are swings made of cotton, fabric, jute or nylon that are tied at both ends to a strong vertical support or typically a tree. If you want to get a feel of Goa, grab a pint and lay down on the hammock and just chill on the beach.

8. Campfire:

What is a camp without some campfire? The main motive behind a campfire is to bring all the campers together. They bond by sharing an experience from their life or sing a song or roast marshmallows and of course share versions of ghost stories around the fire.

9. Stargazing:

As pollution is pretty low compared to the city areas, once the sun sets down the horizon you can see the sky lit up with stars. You will surely find celestial bodies, if you are good at astronomy. There are shooting stars to behold as well.

10. Watch the sunrise and sunset:

Konkan sunset

Every once in a while, a person should witness a sunset or sunrise or even both. It’s not just to see how beautifully the sky lights up, but also as a reminder to one’s self that after darkness there is always light. So no matter what difficulty you are going through in your life, wait for the right moment and you will see things clear as crystal.
