10 Fun places to visit in the Sahayadri

Western ghats or Sahayadri mountain range are know for its serene nature and beauty that is highlighted during the monsoon. It’s one of the top 10 biodiversity hotspots in world with shelter to variety of flora and fauna.

Ten such places in the Sahayadri are :

1. Kaas Plateau –

Kaas plateau is located in the western ghats of Sahyadri range. It’s also commonly known as the valley of flowers in Maharashtra. This arena is situated at an altitude of 1200 meters. Being home to more than 850 species of flowers and plants, this plateau is declared as a biodiversity world heritage site.

2. Matheran hill–

Matheran is the smallest hill station in the Sahayadri range of India. It’s located in the Karjat district, at an elevation of 800 m. It is popular for Matheran Hill Railway, which is an antique railway in Maharashtra.

3. Malshej Ghat–

This ghat is popular among the people who love bird viewing season. This site is home to various birds like quails, rails, crakes, flamingos and cuckoos. Situated near Pune, this place is for trekker, hikers and adventurous people.

4. Kalsubai Peak-

The peak is at the height of 5600ft, Kalsubai is the highest peak of Maharashtra. The trek is a bit difficult but worth it. The place is blessed with clear water streams and mesmerising waterfalls. It also has a small temple of goddess Kalsubai at its summit.

5. Diveagar Beach–

Situated in Shivardhan district of Maharashtra, Diveagar is one of the cleanest beaches. This place is not so touristic so it’s super clean. But this beach is popular in nearby towns like Shivardhan and Harihareshwar.

6. Yeola Grassland–

In Nashik district Yeola grasslands are hills of stones, plain grass and savanna grasslands. This place is also one of the savanna ecoregion in India.

7. Sandhan Valley–

Best known as the second largest valley in Asia, Sandhan Valley is true call for people who are fond of adventure. The 100 ft tall mountains on either side ways with water streams oozing out attracts trekkers. This place also has rock climbing and rappelling for the super sporty ones.

8. Bhimashankar Forest–

Bhimashankar forest is also know as the sacred forest of Maharashtra. This forest is the only place where the Indian Giant Squirrels are found.

9. Godavari River Basin–

Followed by the Ganga, Godavari is the second largest river of India. Godavari originated from Trimbakeshwar, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Among all the river basins in India, Godavari is the highest of them all.
