Sissu Road Trip | 10 awesome Things to Do 

Getting to Sissu on time is very important, since it’s the flagship tourist hop spot from Manali. So expect a lot of crowd to come there as the morning progresses to to afternoon. So it you value time and want to have fun without having to waste time standing in line then reach Sissu by 10-11 am. Here are the things you can do in this Himachali hamlet. 

Zip Line across the river  

Research and map out the stops and attractions along your desired road trip route. This will help you make the most of your time and know what to expect along the way.

Zip line sissu

Over 10+ zip line counters which will allow you to zip across from one end of the river to the other. It’s the only way to cross over during the winter months. But all year round, it’s a great joy ride.  A definite must try for anyone and everyone. 

Chill by the river bank 

Take time to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and scenic viewpoints along the road. Look out for national parks, lakes, mountains, or any other natural wonders that are accessible from your route.

The Chandra river bank flows all through the town of Sissu, so what better way to spend time at Sissu than just sitting by the banks of the river and listening to the sound of nature.

ATV 

Research the towns and cities along your road trip and find out about any unique or interesting attractions they may have. This could include museums, local markets, historical sites, or cultural events.

The buggies have been there all along and are a great experience in summer and in the winter months.  

Wander in the woods 

One of the best parts of a road trip is trying the local food. Whether it’s a famous dish or a lesser-known specialty, stop at local restaurants, cafes, or food stalls to savor the flavors of the area.

The woods of Sissu are a perfect place to chill and have some fun playing with snow. It’s a great place to get a photo shoot down or build some content for your Instagram handle.  

Reverse bunjee 

Take advantage of the natural surroundings and engage in outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing, or fishing. This will let you experience the destination in an active and adventurous way.

Another adventure activity worth trying out is the reverse bunjee. It’s not the same thrill as you would get form a free fall bunjee, but it’s definitely a good try for anyone who wants to do the real thing some time in life.  The location is the game changer 

Stack stones by the lake 

Keep an eye out for quirky and unique roadside attractions such as giant statues, odd museums, or unusual landmarks. These can add an element of fun and surprise to your journey.

Sissu lake is a short walk from the helipad and it’s the perfect place to do the Himalayan ritual of staking seven stones on top of each other. So when you get to the lake, make it a point that you’re stacking up stones and wishing for something non-materialistic.

Selfie with I love Lahaul board 

Take plenty of photos and videos to document your road trip experience. Create a travel journal or a blog to document your adventures, and share it with friends and family.

What’s a road trip without a selfie and the best is to get a selfie with the sign board which says I love Lahaul which is the best spot to take a picture to remember the place.  

Eat at the food court

Engage with the local culture by attending festivals, concerts, or theater performances. Visit art galleries, local craft shops, or farmers’ markets to get a taste of the community.

A food court on wheels is what you will get at Sissu and the food options are unlimited from rajma chawal to momos and even egg curry and bread omlette. 

Play in snow 

If you’re passing by any famous landmarks or historical sites, make sure to stop and explore them. This could include famous buildings, monuments, or battlefields with historical significance.

If you come there in winter, then it’s the perfect time to play in the snow and have fun throwing snow balls on your friends or making a snow man. Or just walk around in the snow. From November end to April mid is when you will find Sissu covered in snow.  

Visit the village

Remember to take breaks and enjoy the journey. Find scenic picnic spots, parks, or beaches where you can relax, recharge, and simply enjoy the moments of the trip.

The village of Sissu is located at a distance from the tourist spots. It’s a short drive up hill, but it’s totally worth visiting the village to get a first hand feel of what the local life in Lahaul is. It’s a laid back village which has suddenly transformed into a tourist hot spot.
