9 Fun things to do in Wai
An untouched place in the Sahyadris that is situated on the banks of the River Krishna, Wai is a small town just a 2-hour drive from Pune and 4 hours from Mumbai.
Our campsite is in a small village known as Gole wadi just 30 minutes from the Wai bus stand. It is a place which is famous for strawberries, authentic Maharashtrian hospitality.
Here are things you can do in Wai:

1. Hike to Kamalgad fort
The fort where the injured army of Shivaji Maharaj used to come to heal their injury by the sand of the fort. It’s a belief that the sand has some healing properties.
2. Have lunch in the Adivasi houses
While hiking to Kamalgad Fort just 10 minutes before the final hike you will see some houses of adivasis, where we will have our lunch because in fort there is no proper place to eat.
3. Try some local snacks
Misal pav and bread cutlets are perfect evening snacks in Wai. While roaming in the village, you will see many small shops which sell snacks. By 8 pm, everything in the village is closed.
4. Hike to Old Mahabaleshwar
It is around a one hour hike to old Mahabaleshwar from our campsite. You can go to Elephant or Cat point in Mahabaleshwar. You can also go shopping in Mahabaleshwar. While coming down, you can take a taxi or you can take the same hiking route to come back.
5. Eat strawberries as much as you want in Wai
Wai is famous for its strawberries. But often people miss understand that strawberries come from Mahabaleshwar. All the strawberries in Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani are produced in Wai and sent there.
6. Pitch your tent near River Krishna
You can pitch your tent near the Krishna river. There is no issue or danger of any animal or local. You can chill and relax near the river by having bbq in the evening.
7. Try authentic Maharashtrian dishes
You can have Pithla Bhakri at our campsite which is very famous in Wai as well as in Maharashtra. Try some lake fish if you love fish as well.
8. Do some water activities
You can swim in Dhom Lake but not during the monsoon time. You can also fish in the lake, if you want to have your bbq. Or one can just chill near the lake by pitching your tent
9. A one-day trip to Panchgani
You can also go to Panchgani from our campsite for a day trip. It just a one hour drive or if you want to hike, you can hike to Panchgani which will take not more than an hour depending on your fitness and speed.
