Leh market night vibe

Leh market isn’t like any other place in Ladakh. It’s one of the places which has a completely different atmosphere in the day and transforms into one of the most happening and pleasant places to be at in the night.

The best time to be at Leh market is from late afternoon to early evening. That is around  roughly 5 PM, which is a good time to go there because the sun is starting to set over the mountains and it’s transitioning from day to night.

It’s during the night that you will actually find the main market to be a completely different place with the warm yellow and orange lights which brighten up the entire street.

It’s during the nights that you will find artistes and street musicians playing at various spots along the road during the main season i.e. from June to August. Walking around to just absorb the vibe is the best way to go about getting a feel of the whole market.

If you’re planning on shopping, it’s during the nights that you will end up getting the best deal. Since it’s when most shops are going to shut for the day and getting the sale done is what matters to them the most. So you’ll find it easier to get things closed.

Heading to one of the cafes or restaurants is a must in the evenings. It’s always better to opt for one which has a roof top view. You’ll get a bird’s eye view of what Leh looks like in the evenings.

Post your dinner makes for an ideal time to take some pictures around the market. Reason being it’s less crowded than any other time of the day. So if you have a good camera which can take night shots well then you’ll end up getting some picture perfect shots in the evening.

Another reason which makes chilling at Leh market in the night fun, is the safety part. Leh is one of the safest places in the country for tourists, no matter how late you stay you’ll never end up getting an eerie vibe.

The only thing to keep in mind while walking back is the dogs who end up going crazy in the night. So make sure to double check with the locals before you walk through the lanes at night which have dogs that are barking.

You’ll find local taxis available to drop you back to your guest house or hotel as late as even midnight outside Leh market. During summer Leh is a bustling 24×7 tourist centre.
