Washroom breaks dos and don’ts while on a family road trip in India

Taking a road trip is much about kilometres and maps and routes as much about managing toilet breaks and food stops. Being able to balance all these is as much as the finesse of successfully completing a road trip. When it comes to washroom breaks while on a family road trip in India, here are some dos and don’ts:

Family Dos:

Family

1. Carry your own toilet paper or tissues as most public restrooms in India might not provide them.

2. Wear comfortable clothing as you may have to squat in some restrooms that do not have western-style toilets.

3. Carry sanitizers and wet wipes to keep hands and surfaces clean.

4. Plan your rest stops ahead of time and look for clean, well-maintained restrooms.

5. In rural areas, check with locals or look for local tea stalls, as they usually have clean restrooms for customers.

Don’ts:

1. Avoid using public restrooms that look unsanitary or unclean.

2. Avoid drinking tap water or beverages with ice from an unverified source, as it may lead to stomach infections.

3. Do not touch any surfaces in public restrooms that look dirty or contaminated.

4. Do not litter in the restrooms or the surroundings. Carry your trash until you find a dustbin.

5. Do not rely on restrooms on the highway as they may not always be well-maintained or clean. It’s always better to plan ahead and chose well-reviewed eateries/hotels.
