What to experience in Kasol
The small backpacker town in Himachal Pradesh has been our home for the last seven years. After living here for so long, this is a list of things we feel everyone who comes to Kasol should at least consider experiencing.

Experience the local bus ride
It’s only in the local buses, that you will understand the actual vibe of the valley. Take the bus from Kasol to Manikaran or Barsheni and you’ll know.
Experience the morning cold
Barring the month of June and July, Kasol is the place where you feel like waking up late and lazing around in bed. The morning weather is just perfect for those who love sleeping.
Experience the snow-capped mountains
No matter where you look, you’ll always see snow-capped mountains around Kasol. It’s surreal to be walking around with a view like that.
Experience the flowing river
With the Parvati River and the Grahan Nala in close proximity, it’s the best place to spend some quiet time meditating with the sound of nature.
Experience the Himalayan hiking
Kasol is the base for numerous hikes around the valley to tiny villages and base camps. It’s the ideal place to start your first hike.
Experience the best momos
Mountains and momos both go hand in hand. Of all the places in the Himalayas, Shamu Momo stall serves arguably the best you can find anywhere in the region. It’s a must-have.
Experience a homestay
Over the years, Kasol has changed from a small backpacker hamlet to a bustling weekend destination. If you still want an authentic experience, a night in a homestay with a Himachali family is the way to go.
Experience the warmth of locals
Everyone here is very friendly from the kids to older people. There is hardly a person who will talk rudely or try to cheat you in this town.
Experience the Hippie market
Dubbed as the Hippie town in the Himalayas, the place but naturally has a flea market full of junkie accessories and clothing. It’s a great place to shop.
Experience a dip in the hot bath
Along the banks of the Parvati River during winter across the Chalal foot over bridge, there is a small natural hot spring. It’s the perfect place to rejuvenate yourself in the Himalayas.
Experience the German bakery
For those who crave a sugar rush, don’t worry, the German bakery around the place will satisfy your craving. From Nutella croissants and carrot cakes to apple crumble pies, these are worth more than just one try.
Experience walking through dense forest
It’s not every day that you get a chance to walk aimlessly with full network through a dense pine tree forest. This is exactly what the woods in Kasol are like. Make sure to take a stroll.
Experience a candlelight dinner at Evergreen
If you are travelling with your loved one, then this is the place to dine at. The ambience coupled with the vibe and the food make this a perfect place for a romantic dinner experience.
Experience a bowl of rice beer
Chang as it is locally called, is basically rice that is fermented through the day which gives a slight alcoholic feel to the brew. It’s nothing like the name and is not something you’ll want to try more than once.
Experience a Hippie makeover
If you are on a sabbatical from work or in college, then this is the perfect time to get a makeover and by that, we mean the Hippie rasta way. The barbershops at Kasol are more than equipped to make you a Hippie in a matter of minutes from a funky hairdo to lulus and dreadlocks, the barbershops here can do it all.
Experience the positive traveller vibe
There is something about Kasol that always has travellers of all kind leaving with a good positive feel after visiting the place. That’s more to do with the fact that the place is so small yet bustling with foreigners and Indians alike. It’s a place which will make you feel good.
