Reaching Vaishno Devi

1. By Air

The nearest airport is Jammu Airport (Satwari Airport), about 50 km from Katra. From there, you can hire taxis or use buses to reach Katra.

2. By Train

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station connects Katra to major Indian cities. It’s one of the most convenient ways to get there.

3. By Road

Katra is well connected by road. Buses and taxis are available from Jammu, Delhi, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and more.

The Yatra Begins: Katra to Bhawan

The actual trek starts from Katra, the base camp. Before beginning the yatra, pilgrims must obtain a Yatra Parchi (registration slip), available for free at the Yatra Registration Counter or online.

Distance: Approximately 13 km from Katra to Bhawan

Trekking Time: 4 to 9 hours, depending on pace, stops, and fitness

The Route:

1. Katra to Banganga (1 km): Entry checkpoint, where you might want to take a holy dip in the Banganga river.
2. Banganga to Charan Paduka (2.5 km): A small shrine with the footprints of the Goddess.
3. Charan Paduka to Adhkuwari (6 km): Here the Goddess meditated for 9 months. Devotees can crawl through the narrow cave called Garbha Joon.
4. Adhkuwari to Bhawan (4.5 km): The final leg of the journey to the sacred cave temple.
