Tyre art: The experience
This was the very first time, I was going to paint on tyres. I didn’t know how to go about making cartoon characters on four huge SUV tyres which were then going to be used as the stem for a table setup. They would be with glass over it with wooden logs or mostly bean bags around it.
Idea

After lots of research over the internet we knew what we exactly wanted and also got more variations that can be used to expand with the same but better tuned product that will suit our project requirements.
Base paint

The most important part that I have learned is to know that you should always have a good base paint no matter what your product is painted unless you like to go freestyle at times.
Minion idea on yellow

Tyres consist of rubber and this manages to soak a lot of paint in it. So the most efficient way is to base paint this by using layers of oil paint and painting the outer places only. This is since the inner tyre is not going to be used or seen. Yellow was the base paint so the Minions had to be the best option to be made on them as we later realised we didn’t have much blue to be used.
Scavenger Hunt

The primary reason to have cartoon characters on these tyres is because we host a Scavenger Hunt game which has enormous points to be collected during your stay with us. These tyres are placed around the Cafe which also adds up to the Hippie Vibe in the area around.
First Freehand Spray Art

Freehand simply means that you do something manually without the usage of rulers and other such instruments. Freedom and freehand go hand in hand and I guess in a while my freehand had started to go out of control and the characters were beginning to look strange and I felt the need to stop and give it some time since I was in a haste to finish them for no reason.
Started with a Pikachu, pokeball, Tweety, Daffy Duck and Homer Simpson all of them were average and good enough to be understood easily by people around.
I wasn’t really satisfied with the finishing touches since it was kept on the ground the whole time while spraying and it wasn’t easy at all to understand the outcome of this first tyre.
Second art position and easiness

After a pause for approximately an hour Ibrahim came up with a solution by keeping the next two tyres which had to be painted on a wooden log at more that two to three feet above the ground which made it super convenient to spray or get the right angle to spray on it.
Spray Cans

I’ve been drawing most of my life as a freehand artist mostly with a ball pen, sketch pens and also brushes at times. It was easy for me since I love to make intricate and detailed art but while using spray cans my whole line game had to be withdrawn and I had to soon be selective about every time I spray now. So I always had a mobile in the other hand to refer to the image that had to drawn and took it slowly and easily.
Final touches with brush

So many minute details play a very important role in adding up to the final outcome and looks of the art. The one and only solution is to give the finishing and details with a hand brush rather than using a spray can as it might end up ruining the whole shade or effect that you have created.
You can also use a stencil or a board to avoid the spray to smudge to other areas.
Please Note: Do check out the second tyre set up with The Mask, Bugs Bunny and Po from the Kung Fu Panda ( The Most Realistic and the last one I made as I had gained some Inner Peace)
Glass for table top

The tyres were done and only the round smooth carved glass had to be kept on it to be used as the table that we had imagined it to be.
Setup

The setup looks so attractive that anybody who even passes by will surely stop and look at a few of these characters as they also look back to you with the memories that you have had as a child when you watched them on TV.
