Our only road trip to Spiti valley, which does not include the mighty Chandratal lake, The only reason for excluding the moon lake is the fact that in the month of May and post October, the road to Chandratal is never open.
The bus from Delhi to Rampur is the best in its class by HRTC on that particular route. The Kinnaur bit of the road trip is as interesting as Spiti, with Sarahan, Chitkul & Nako all a different mix of what we usually don’t expect from Himalayan villages. Chitkul is also famous as the last village before the India-China border.
Our Winter Spiti Valley Road Trip has been planned in such a way that as each day passes, the trip will keep getting better along the journey & by the end of it all, you have actually travelled & lived in some of the highest villages inhabited in the world.
– Arrive at New Delhi by 16:00 HRS
– Reach ISBT Kashmiri Gate by 18:00 HRS.
– Board a Volvo AC semi-sleeper bus to Rampur at 19:00 HRS.
– Reach Rampur by 9:00 Am and meet the lead driver.
– Hop onto the car and leave for the border village of Chitkul. (116km = 3-4 Hrs)
– Reach Chitkul around 1:00 PM and check into a guest house. (Only Jio/BSNL Network)
– Visit the village temple and spend the rest of the day interacting with the friendly locals.
– Spend the rest of the day wandering through the village lanes and chilling by the River Baspa.
– Post breakfast, leave for the village of Tabo ( 209 km= 6-7 hrs)
– Lunch At Nako Village.
– Check in to our homestay in Tabo
– Hike to the meditation caves and wander through the arid village of Tabo.
– Rest of the evening at leisure.
– Post breakfast, visit the Tabo Monastery and leave for Dhankar (32 km=1 hr)
– Reach Dhankar and check into our homestay
– Visit the cliff monastery and the Dhankar village.
– Hike to the breathtaking Dhankar Lake – 2 hr hike
– Return to the Guest house by sundown.
– Post breakfast, say goodbye to your family and drive to the hill Monastery of Key.
– Stop at the Kibber Chicham bridge for photos (10 minutes)
– Reach Komic, the world’s highest village with a road in 60 minutes.
– Wander around the monastery & drive to the village of Hikkim.
– Hikkim houses the highest post office in the world at 14,440 ft.
– Post your tlow post cards & drive to the village of Langza.
– Reach Langza & check into our homestay for the night.
– Spend the evening playing with the village children on the farm.
– Remember to watch the sky at night. You’ll see a million stars.
– All meals will be provided by the homestay family
– Post Breakfast leave for Kalpa
– Drive to the town of Kalpa. (223km = 6-7 Hrs)
– Enroute Visit Gue Monastery. (MUMMY )
– Reach Kalpa in the evening and check into a homestay
– Wander around Kalpa village
– Rest of the evening at leisure.
– After Breakfast, check out and drive to Shimla. ( 161 km =6-7 hrs)
– Reach Shimla by lunchtime.
– Drop at Shimla private Bus stand
– Board a Volvo AC semi-sleeper bus to New Delhi at 18:30 HRS.
– Arrive at ISBT New Delhi by 6-8 am
– Book any onward flight or train post 10:00 am.
