14 Day Complete Sri Lanka Road Trip

– Arrive at Bandaranaike airport by 12:00 HRS (noon)

– Hop onto the Vehicle and drive to Negombo (11 km = 30 mins)

– Check into the guest house at Negombo 

– Freshen up and leave for Negombo sightseeing.

– Visit St. Sebastian’s church, The Dutch Fort, Angurukaramulla Temple, and the dry fish market.

– Watch the sunset at the beach.

– Return back post sundown.

– Rest of the evening at  leisure 

– After breakfast, leave for Jaffna (375 km= 7-8 hrs)

– Cross the historic Elephant Pass, the gateway to the Jaffna Peninsula.

– Stop en route for traditional northern Sri Lankan cuisine.

– Arrive in Jaffna by 4 PM and check into your homestay.

– Freshen up and visit Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil: Attend the evening Pooja (prayer ceremony) at this historic, gold-towered Hindu temple. Note: Men are required to remove their shirts before entering the inner sanctum.

– Rest of the evening at leisure

– Breakfast at the hotel.

– Leave for sightseeing in Jaffna. First visit, Keerimalai Naguleswaram Temple & Holy Springs, one of the island’s oldest Hindu shrines and its natural freshwater spring right beside the sea. Then visit the sacred Nagapooshani Amman Temple (Hindu) and Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya (Buddhist temple visited by Lord Buddha according to legend).

– Return to the town of Jaffna for Lunch (Try local Jaffna Crab Curry or vegetarian South Indian-style meals).

– Leave for Jaffna Fort: Walk through the star-shaped fort built by the Portuguese in 1619 and later expanded by the Dutch. Enjoy sweeping views of the Jaffna Lagoon, Jaffna Public Library: Admire the striking white neo-Moghul architecture of this historic institution, and Rio Ice Cream: Stop at Jaffna’s iconic ice cream parlour for a classic local treat.

– Rest of the evening at Leisure

– After breakfast, leave for Trincomalee (235 km=4-5 hrs)

– En route, stop for lunch

– Reach Trincomalee by 2 pm and check into your homestay

– Freshen up and Visit Thirukoneswaram Kovil 

– Leave for Nilaveli Beach and then Uppuveli beach

– Rest of the evening at leisure.

– After breakfast, leave for Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s ancient first capital (108 km=2-3 hrs)

– Stop at the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, Mihintale, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

– Reach Anuradhapura by 12 pm, check into your homestay, and refresh.

–  Enjoy an authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry buffet at a local eatery.

– Leave for Anuradhapura exploration by car.

– Rest of the eavening at leisure.

– After breakfast, leave for Dambulla (63 km=1-2 hrs)

– Reach Dambulla by 1 pm, check into your homestay, and refresh.

–  Enjoy an authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry at a local eatery.

– After that, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple

– Rest of the evening at leisure.

– Leave by 5:30 am to visit Sigiriya Rock (1200 steps) (Optional)

– Return to the homestay for breakfast by 9:30 am.

– Post breakfast by 10:00 HRS, leave for the town of Kandy. (73 km = 2-3 Hrs)

– Reach Kandy by 12:00 HRS and check into our homestay for the night.

– Explore the town in a vehicle

– Rest of the evening at leisure.

– Post breakfast by 10:00 HRS, leave for the town of Nuwara Eliya. (74 km = 2-3 Hrs)

– Reach Nuwara Eliya by 1:00 PM and check into our homestay for the night.

– Freshen up and leave for sightseeing 

– Rest of the evening at leisure.

– Leave by 10 am for the town of Ella. (57 km = 1-2 hrs)

– Reach by 12:00 PM and check into our stay

– Freshen up and leave for Ella sightseeing.

– Visit Nine Arch Bridge and Ravana Falls.

– Return back post sundown.

– Explore the Ella nightlife

– Rest of the evening at leisure 

– Post breakfast by 9:00 AM, leave for the hippie town of Mirissa. (155 km =3-5 hrs)

– Reach Mirissa by 2:00 PM and check into our homestay. 

– Catch the waves and watch the sky change colours for sunset.

– Visit Parrot Rock on Mirissa Beach.

– Post sundown, attend a beach party or have dinner by the beach.

– Leave around 10:00 AM to the beach town of Boossa in the Galle district. (53km = 1 Hr 50 mins)

– Reach Galle by lunchtime and explore the fort & lighthouse and stadium.

–  Arrive at our beach-view cabana stay at Boossa by 3:00 AM. (12km = 30 minutes)

– Spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

– Go for a swim in the ocean or read a book and watch the sunset.

– Post breakfast by 11:00 HRS, leave by car to the beach town of  Hikkaduwa. (20 km= 45 mins)

– Check into our beach-view homestay.

– Chill at Hikkaduwa Beach. (Famous for snorkeling)

– Return back to the homestay post sundown.

– Spend the rest of the evening exploring the town area cafes & flea market

– Post breakfast by 11:00 HRS, leave for the Town of Colombo (155km = 3-4 hrs)

– Reach the capital city, Colombo, and check in to your stay.

– Freshen up and leave for Colombo sightseeing. (Gangaramaya Temple Colombo; Galle Face Green and Pettah Market).

– Ideal to go shopping for souvenirs.

– Rest of the evening at leisure.

– Post-breakfast by 11:00 AM, hop in the car and leave for the airport. (35 km = 45-1 hr)
