Solo Backpacking to Kasol

Tips to plan your first solo trip

The thrill of backpacking solo to a random destination is something which doesn’t let you sleep in peace. Travelling solo to an unknown destination without knowledge of that place can be overwhelming but also it’s a lifetime experience that one will never forget. It’s a different feeling altogether to plan your first solo trip.

The very decision one has to make regarding the destination to travel to is vital. There’s always a great deal of confusion that comes along when deciding whether to travel towards the south and visit the ancient ruins of Hampi or to the north and experience the great Himalayan mountains. The very destination you choose is directly related to your budget.

A proper plan done in advance is the key to perfect solo travel. Researching about the place you’re gonna travel to. The question you need to ponder about is, when you’re going to travel and how? Travelling by bus or train is budget-friendly but you need to book tickets in advance. What kind of clothes will you need to pack that suits the place’s weather conditions?

Accommodation is also an important aspect since many people spend majority of money on a stay at luxurious hotels. If you’re travelling solo, then you should experience a homestay once and blend in with the locals and their culture. Staying at a homestay or hostel can save a lot.

Whilst traveling one thing you have to be aware of is the timing of the local buses or ferries and their charges. There are some destinations with buses available every ten minutes or even an hour. While some places need ferries to cross over from isle to another, others offer tuk-tuk rides to different stops. It’s best to learn the local language since communication is something that will help you with the locals.

One of the best things about embarking on a solo journey is meeting different kinds of people from different cities who are like-minded. When it comes to food, you can always try the local delicacies. In some places, locals offer home-cooked food at good prices and there are always restaurants you avail of.

Research about the famous tourist spots in the destination you’re planning to visit. The timings at which you can visit the place along with their charges. The activities that it has to offer like the coracle ride in Tungabhadra river at Hampi, trekking at frozen Chadar lake in Leh

Always let your family know about your location and stay in touch with them. Safety is also of great importance, so it’s better to know the nearby police stations and hospitals with their respective numbers.

With all these points in mind, savour your journey and come back with unforgettable memories!
