Malana: 13 Harmful things not to do
Malana an interesting village is where they pretty much have their own law and order and have been thus far living a life pretty much cut out from the rest of civilisation.

1. Do not touch the people
People of Malana believe that they belong to the Aryan race. The village has been one of the oldest democracies in the world. The villagers believe that they are descendants of Alexander, the Great. You are not allowed to touch any individual, in case of contact the local rushes for a bath.
2. Do not touch the temples or walls
At Malana, you are not allowed to touch any temple or anything around the valley. Please don’t get excited looking at the architecture and touch it. In case you touch any temple, you will be fined and an animal will be sacrificed to maintain the purity.
3. Don’t hunt wild animals
Hunting is strictly prohibited in the village. Refrain from shooting or killing any animal.
4. Do not burn wood in the village
Burning of wood is prohibited in the village. Please don’t set up your own bonfire at any random spot. Also, out of sheer excitement, don’t burn wood just for fun or pictures.
5. Don’t shoot videos
Do not take pictures or videos of locals while you are visiting Malana. The locals get offended or might scream at you while you are doing so. Avoid uploading photos of drugs on your social handles just to act cool.
6. No eating chicken
Make sure you don’t eat chicken in the village, it’s prohibited according to the law in Malana. Don’t ask for chicken in the village of Malana.
7. Do not learn the local language
The Malanis speak Kanashi, the local language which is known as devil’s dialect. Do not try to mock them while speaking this language.
8. Refrain from picking drugs
This is the most important aspect, do not carry hashish on your way back down. You will be checked for drugs and you will be jailed for this offence.
9. Do not take cops along for any reason
You won’t be allowed in the village if you are taking cops along. The entry of the police is banned here. The villagers do not accept their authority to control law and order in Malana which has its own system.
10. Do not stay in Malana
If you plan on hiking to Malana, stay at YOLO Camping as it is situated closest to Malana i.e at Jari. Outsiders cannot stay in Malana as it is banned. You can stay at YOLO Camping for ₹250/- onwards and don’t forget to try the BBQ and campfire.
11. No fixing nails on trees
Fixing nails on trees spoils the flora, in order to avoid the flora being damaged, nails are not allowed in any plantation.
12. Do not talk to the females in Malana
Refrain from talking to any female in the village. It is not allowed.
13. Never break any rules or get into an argument with locals
A village living by their own rules, make sure you don’t offend anyone and follow all the points above.
