Things to do in Kathmandu, Nepal

Whenever someone plans to visit a place, I’m sure one does their complete research as to why choose a specific location – there are various aspects which makes a place unique and different, even though the scenery might be similar in few parts but the things and activities to do in a location is the main reason why a person would choose that location.

I have listed few options as to what you can do in Kathmandu, there are various options and choices for one to select – from a cultural trip to adventurous rendezvous, there are things to do in Kathmandu that guarantee an unmatched holiday experience in Nepal

-> Mountain Flights

This is for all the mountain and adventure lovers out there – Yes, you read it right – it is beyond one’s imagination as no one has ever seen anything like it except for a bird – you can visualize the bird’s view just like the way you might have written it in your English Essay back in school – “If I were a Bird”. You can have a very close view of the world’s highest peaks including the Mt. Everest itself and get incredible wallpaper pictures because everyone gets a window seat! 

For the OG Khatron ke Khiladi inside of many of us, there are options to charter helicopters and fly to the Everest range, taking a short tour around the Everest valleys before landing for breakfast and then returning to Kathmandu.

You might also want to experience hang-gliding, paragliding, paramotor flying, skydiving or even participate in relevant training courses. So I would suggest you to Fasten your seatbelt and capture the incredible view through your eyes or phones!

This is for the wildlife lovers and bird watchers-  Chitwan National Park is a rich ecosystem that allows you to have an experience with the wild. It is here that you can discover some of the finest species of mammals, reptiles, water animals and birds.

A safari to this park will bring you one step closer to discovering Asian one-horned Rhinoceros, while you can see some nocturnal Royal Bengal Tigers strolling around the forests. You’ll be in awe with the encounter with the incredible wild animals itself, watching them in their natural habitat and entering into their territory is a different yet unpredictable experience in itself.

Now, this is one is for all the foodies here – There is no better way to understand Nepal and the Nepali people, than through their cuisine. Authentic Nepali taste is found in Newari and Thakali cuisines. which are available in a large number of eateries spread all over the valley. 

The regular and basic Nepali meal is dal, bhat and tarkari (curried vegetables), most often accompanied by achar or just raw chilli. Curried meat is very popular. Acquired from Tibetans, momos (steamed or fried dumplings) deserve a special mention as it is one of the most popular snacks among Nepalis and way to everyone’s heart.

-> Meditation and Yoga

This is for someone who wants to just relax and get away from the hectic schedule. A perfect place to mediate with a view. There are various centers for Meditation and very popular among tourists. Nepal Vipassana Centre runs ten-day courses on meditation. A strict regimen is followed here throughout the course. The daily meditation begins at 4:30 am, and silence is kept for the entire ten days.

To register or pick up a pamphlet on the course, visit the centre’s Kathmandu office (Sun-Fri 10 am-5.30 pm) in the courtyard of Jyoti Bhawan, in Kantipath. It is believed that meditation rejuvenates one’s energy level and zeal. It has gained a following worldwide and is taught in many parts of the world. A meditation course will help you relax and explore the spiritual side within yourself.
