10 Fun Things to do in Dawki, Meghalaya

A trip to Meghalaya without a road trip and camping at Dawki is incomplete. So make sure you plan well and experience all that’s there to do & experience while you’re at Dawki.

1. Picture from above

Just before you reach Dawki and are above to climb the steps down you’ll get a magnificent view of everything that you’ll be experiencing. Make sure you take a picture to savour the moment into a lasting memory.

2. Boat Ride @ Dawki

A boat ride is a basic default that everyone who comes to Dawki has to experience. Don’t let the appearance of the boat scare you. It is one of the few places in the world, where you can experience a boat ride along the border of two countries.

3. Kayaking

If adventure is your thing then kayaking is an absolute must-do while you’re at Dawki. Most of the campsite owners at Umngot have at least a couple of kayaks if not more with them. Take it into the river for an hour or so and self explore the river bed.

4. Fishing

5. Swimming

Oh yes, the river flow at Umngot is so mild that everyone can go swimming with a life jacket. It’s simple, fun and refreshing activity to do just after reaching your campsite in Dawki. A swim into the lukewarm water will definitely take away all the tiredness from the road trip.

6. Camping

The single most important thing to do. Just a visit to Dawki is not enough for you to absorb all that’s there to experience. Camping is the only way to spend a night by the river. If you can ignore the washroom facilities which are basically makeshift, then the camping experience at Dawki is one to savour. The night sky with a campfire is something that will take you back to the bare basics of life. Make sure you plan a night of camping at Dawki.

7. Sunset time lapse

What do I say about the sunset at Dawki? It’s a place where you will see the sky change colours similar to what you have seen happen at a beach. From yellow to orange and a bit of red which turns into maroon and then finally the sun goes away. Now imagine all this captured in a time-lapse. Words can’t do justice to the footage that’s captured over a 30-45 minute time-lapse.

8. Connect with nature

With a river, hills, bushes and shrubs there is nature all around Dawki. So all you have to do is move around and self explore the place. You will definitely find a lot of things that will be worth a photo booth.

9. Meditate

Early morning meditation at Dawki

You won’t find a better and more peaceful place to just sit down and meditate with the sound of the river and cool breeze in the mornings, the place is better than perfect for even a first-timer who’s trying their hand at meditation.
