Om beach Gokarna

5 X-factor of Gokarna

Gokarna is a beautiful beach town situated in northern Karnataka also known as Uttar Kannada. It is famous for its clean beaches and ancient temples. It is a lesser-known place situated just three hours from India’s party hub, Goa.

Unlike Goa, it has the South Indian essence with not much population and tourists. It is still the same as Goa was in the 80s – untouched.

There are many factors one can consider to visit this beautiful town.

Less tourism

Gokarna does have tourists but if you compare it with other beach destinations in India, it is less crowded. Only in the month of December, Gokarna experiences a large crowd.

Temples in Gokarna

There are many temples in and around the town. Two are famous and the oldest temples right in the heart of the town. The Mahaganpati temple and Mahabaleshwar temple. Sometimes it is also referred as the temple town of South India or Karnataka.

Cheap stays

In Gokarna, you can find the cheapest stays. Near the bus stand, in the town you can stay in guest houses which are pretty much decent and have attached and non-attached washrooms. If you are visiting during the offseason, then you can stay in shacks which are on Kudle and Om beach. These will cost you somewhere around ₹500 to ₹800 per night. But the washrooms facilities are common for everyone staying in the shacks.

Food is way too cheap

Gokarna has a lot to offer when it comes to food. Here in town you can find many food restaurants which serve from breakfast to dinner that too at reasonable prices. One can have a full meal in less than ₹150. If you are looking for seafood which is available on the beach shacks, it will cost you somewhere around ₹300 to ₹500.

Save a lot on transportation

Here in Gokarna, you don’t have to rent a bike or car-like people do in Goa because the beaches are far away from one another. But in Gokarna, if you are staying in shacks on the beach, then you don’t have to rent any vehicle because the beaches are accessible by foot on small treks from every beach. Here you can save money when it comes to transportation.

One of the most important things or attractions of Gokarna are the clean beaches and clear water which is very rare in India to see.

If you are not a party person and beach lover and want to avoid chaos unlike Goa and just want to have a peaceful time, then Gokarna is the best place to visit. You can enjoy your holiday in a reasonable budget. Gokarna has good connectivity to major cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai by daily buses and weekly trains.
