Whichever place you go to. do not forget to research about that place. Look online or check it out in books, you will find some information about the place. Learn a little more about every place you go to so that you can soak in their culture and tradition easily. Research is very important as you can be mentally prepared about the terrain, the lifestyle and get more acquainted with the place.
2. Offline maps
Most remote places, especially in India do not have a network. If you choose the off beaten path, most of the towns and villages do not have internet or basic network to call. Hence, download offline maps and use it whenever you feel you are lost.
3. Weather check
Not just because of global warming, whenever, you backpack make sure you know what the weather will be like over there. You will get to know what kind of equipment you require to add to your journey.
4. Checklist
There are so many things you forget while you pack and most of them are essentials which you cannot afford to leave behind. Make a checklist so that you remember all that you need to carry according to the necessary requirements. You will save both money and time like this.
5. Guesthouses instead of a hotel
Not just because they are cheaper but the real essence of backpacking comes when you live with a family or in guest houses or hostels. Instead of booking a hotel and spending so much money, stay in guest houses where you can meet other travellers like you and be a part of their culture through their food and language.
6. Charge gadgets
On the offbeat path, you never know when you will get electricity next. Charge all your gadgets before leaving for your trip and always carry a power bank. Do not forget to carry an extra data cable if you’re heading for a longer time.
7. Medical test
If your trip includes a hike or a trek, do a medical test for a better trip. Start jogging a week or two before your trip so that your stamina increases. You can also learn ways to breathe better especially in the higher altitude regions.
8. Important documents on your phone
Always scan and keep your documents on your phone or a gadget that you will be carrying. This will cause lesser confusion in case your phone is lost or it runs out of battery.
9. Keep a higher GB memory card
If you’re exploring a new place for the first time, always carry an extra GB memory card on your camera or phone. Always carry an extra memory card in case you are into photography or videography.
10. Keep cash with you always
Most remote villages do not have banks or even ATMs. Always keep cash in your hand with you to avoid such situations. Keep it in different places in your bag or on your body to avoid it all getting stolen or lost.
Take the risk and do not be afraid, even if you are a solo traveller or travelling with your friends, make it a point and try something new every time you go to a new place.
