Tirthan Valley is Himachal’s best kept secret and is located 70 kilometres from Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Tirthan is still offbeat, less explored and a nature lover’s paradise. Here are 10 things to do in Tirthan Valley:

1. Tirthan Valley Rustic houses:

The valley still respects it’s traditional and old school way of life. Their houses are made of wood and the roof is decorated with local stone slates that simmer during the day. These houses are filled with greenery around them and lots of flowers that adorn and add to the beauty. Nagini in Banjar is the preferred place filled with homestays.

Tirthan Valley derives its name from the Tirthan River. The icy cold water originates from snow-capped mountains located in the Great Himalayan National Park. The waters of the Tirthan River are crystal clear and very clean. One can sit and paint by the river or just do nothing and let the rhythm of the gushing water soothe you.

3. Trout fishing:

The Tirthan River has an abundance of trout. Rainbow trout and brown trout are the major species found in the stream of the valley. The license taken for fishing permits catching fish in the 45 kilometres of the Tirthan River. Fishing aficionados can get a good catch.

4. Trekking:

The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) is spread over 50 sq. km. The trek starts from the village of Gushaini and it is an 8 kilometres trek to the start or permit point of GHNP. There is a proper trail till the village of Ropa after which the trail is uncharted and the views are spectacular. With the Tirthan River running parallel, there are a lot of treks and destinations in GHNP. It is a great place for both nature lovers and a wildlife enthusiast.

5. Try local food:

The local food in Tirthan Valley is delicious. Do not miss out on the fried trout, as well as their vegetarian thali and mutter paneer which is yummy as the peas used, are super sweet and nutritious.

On a rainy or cloudy day, one can enjoy and trip on clouds. These clouds give a mystic feel and one can watch the movement of clouds and record a time-lapse.

8. Fruit orchards:

Fruit trees planted on the roadside are a beauty to behold. During harvest season – July, one can spot apple, pomegranate and walnut trees laden with fruits. The local homestays usually have their own fruit orchards and one can visit and enjoy fresh fruits straight from the source.

On clear days, there are millions of stars shining brightly in the sky. It may get a little cold on a few days for starters who are star gazing. But for the strong-hearted, the view of the stars will stay with you forever. Also for photographers, a long exposure shot of the night sky works out well.

10. Camping:
