10 Fun things to do in Phi Phi Islands

Phi Phi has a lot of popular sites to offer to its visitors, a great choice of activities and tours and of course the natural beauty of the island is second to none. There is always something to do or see in Phi Phi Islands. Some of the best things to do while you are visiting Phi Phi are below. 

1. Visit the Koh Phi Phi Leh and Maya Bay

Koh Phi Phi Leh is the second-largest and uninhabited after Phi Phi Don. Phi Phi Leh hosts one beach that is the world-famous Maya Beach which became popular after the release of a blockbuster 2000 film called The Beach starring Leonardo Di Caprio. Maya beach offers clear crystal waters. White sand powder and tropical vegetation, all the postcard cliches in one place. In the season which is from November to April, it is crowded, full of tourists and yes, despite all of it, Maya Bay remains a place to see

2. Snorkelling in Hat Yao

If you have just one day to visit Koh Phi Phi, your top choice of activity to do should be snorkeling in Hat Yao. For visitors with only one day trip, this is an awesome destination as the water is crystal clear, the temperature is warm, which makes it the maximum chance of seeing some exotic and colourful marine creatures like clownfish, black-tipped sharks are often spotted in this place.

3. View the Phi Phi Viewpoint

Koh Phi Phi Don has a very unusual yet interesting shape, it’s like an ‘H’. With its prominent village on the Horizontal bar with a 100 m flats trip of white sand stuck between Tonsai Bay to the south and Dalum Bay to the north and the mountains covered with jungle are the two vertical bars of the H. The Viewpoint gives you an overlook of the village and the two bays and is located to the east of the flat strip of white sand at an altitude of 186 m. It takes around 20-40 minutes to get there.

This place is hands down one of the must things to do in Phi Phi as its a home to a very rare breed of bamboos. These islands are fully covered with Thai spruces and bamboos, as the name suggests giving it a lush green effect of appearance. It is a jaw-dropping scene when you see these tightly packed greens in the shape of a heart and the splendid green landscape will have a soothing effect on one’s sight and mind without any doubt.

5. Go diving in Phi Phi

One of the prime and most notable activities to do in Phi Phi is underwater diving and Phi Phi does offer some remarkable dive sites. Some of the well-known dive sites are shark point, Anemone reef and the king Cruiser Wreck, located to the west between Phuket and Phi Phi Islands. One must try this to experience some amazing underwater marine life, colourful fishes, superb underwater flora and fauna.

6. Viking Cave

Viking cave is majestic and one of the well-known places to see in Koh Phi Phi Leh. The cave is on the northeastern side of the island and is located at the bottom of a tall limestone cliff. It takes more or less 30 mins to get to these caves by long-tail boat from Tonsai Bay. The Viking Cave gets its name from the paintings made on the side of the walls known as ‘Tham Phaya Nak’ in Thai.

7. Rock Climbing

The limestone cliffs and the panoramic view from the top have made Phi Phi one of the many places visited for rock climbing. There are many rock climbing sites in Phi Phi namely Hua Ling Wall, Hin Tak and Tonsai Tower. The most famous and popular rock climbing site remains the Tonsai Tower. The spot is chosen by the tourist depending on the varying levels of difficulty but it’s a must-try.

8. Pum’s Thai Cooking School

Pum’s Thai Cooking School is where you should be if you want to learn some secret ingredients and techniques of Thai Cuisine and would like to cook it by yourself at home after your holiday. This school is one of the most popular places to visit and learn Thai food. Its located at the Patong beach and there is a second branch opened in Tonsai Pum’s Thai Cooking Schoolillage in Koh Phi Phi Don. (a third branch is in Chiang Mai)

9. Escape to Ao Pileh Bay

This Bay is a secluded part of Thai Paradise. Ao Pileh Bay is a huge and shallow cove with beautiful and colorful coral reef at the entrance and majestic cliffs of limestone full of plant life surrounds the emerald green lagoon. The water is turquoise and crystal clear, very magical as if the rays of light are illuminating the floor of the cove. The sea is a pretty arm for you to swim and travellers can spend hours admiring the breathtaking beauty of the bay.

10. Spend time in Moo Dee Bay

Loh Moo Dee in Thai, offers a 500 m long white sandy beach by the crystal clear blue waters,situated on Koh Phi Phi Don’s east coast. Moo Dee Bay is a perfect getaway from the crowd. The beach is less crowded and offers pleasant snorkelling to its visitors at both ends of the bay. This bay is reachable by hiring long tail boats from Tonsai jetty and will take you to the bay in around 20 minutes. Whatsoever its an amazing place to rest and just relax peacefully.
