Ten things to do in Moreh

Moreh is a town located on the India-Myanmar border in the Tengnoupal district of the Indian state of Manipur. The town is mainly inhabited by Kuki, Tamil, Nepali, Meitei, Punjabi, Telugu, Bihari, Marwari and Muslim Pangals. The official language is Meitei and Kuki. One can see different cultures living in the same region together.  Here are 10 things to do in Moreh.

1. Try the cuisine

- The experience one can get of a place is by tasting the food.  If you are a meat or pork lover, you will find lots of different variety of dishes in Moreh which can satisfy your hunger.  Vegetarian don't be sad, there are many vegetarian dishes available with rice where you can taste the Manipuri cuisine with Burmese spices. Do try the Burmese tea leaf salad.

2. Immigration gates 1 and 2

- The immigration gates are the gateway to Myanmar (Burma) where you just show your ID proof and enter into the neighbouring country.  Gate no. 1 will take you to different pagodas (monasteries) where you can see the Burmese culture. There's a rickshaw available at the checkpoint which can give you a local tour of the village of Tamu.  Gate number 2 is a gateway to the traditional market called Namthalon market where one can find different Burmese products and experience the market.

3. Taste some Chai

- Chai or tea in Manipur is a must to try because you will find a lot of different varieties of tea which can refresh you.  Do try the local red tea in Moreh. It's available everywhere.

4. Talk to locals

- Locals are a reliable and detailed source of information one can get.  So do talk to locals and get an idea of their culture. Enjoy the story of how the town was earlier during the British era.

5. Play with locals

- The Tamilian vicinity in Moreh town has been there for more than 200 years. They live happily, sharing the land with the local Manipuri people. One must visit the Tamilian vicinity in Moreh near gate no. 1. You will see a Dravidian architectured temple near the gate which is the landmark of the community.

9. Wander the lanes

- If you are a peaceful person and just want to walk through the serene land of Moreh. You can just go in any lane and feel the beauty of the town made up of wooden houses.

10. Church and temple
