10 Fun things to do in Krabi, Thailand
Krabi is one of the southern provinces of Thailand and resides on the shore of the Andaman sea. This island developing in tourism has crystal clear water both inland as well as around its coastal shores. Apart from it’s a hidden beauty, it is also believed that the town of “Krabi” got its name from a legend stating that an ancient sword was unearthed prior to the city’s founding. Thus, the town was named “Krabi”, which means ‘sword’.

1. Visit the Emerald pool
As the name suggests, the Emerald pool is a natural pond which is famous for swimming. It owes its name to it’s lipid green emerald waters. It is located about 50 kilometers from Krabi and people can travel there through renting a scooter or hiring a tuk-tuk driver.

2. Water Sports

3. Wat tham sua
Wat tham sua also known as the tiger cave temple is a Buddhist temple located near Krabi town. Legend has it that a huge tiger used to live in the cave and thus the temple is named after the discoveries of tiger paw prints on the cave walls and also the bulge of the cave resembling a tigers paw. Part of the temple complex is where the monks live and pray. To reach the main attraction “Footprint of the Buddha”, you need to hike 1,237 steps up the limestone tower. Reaching the top offers you a panoramic 360 degree view of the Andaman sea, dramatic limestone cliff formations and the verdant rain forests.

4. Klong thom hot springs
Take a dip in the therapeutic and relaxing Krabi hot springs in the heart of a small jungle preserve. These hot tubs are carved into smooth rocks and the water is channeled from deep-rooted thermal springs located in volcanic chambers. The hot spring is quite close to the Emerald pool so you can visit this place after the Emerald pool.

5. Susaan Hoi
The geological wonder susaan hoi (meaning seashell graveyard) is located just 16 km away from Krabi town at ban laem pho. The reason it’s a geological wonder is because the site is said to be 40 million year old which was a swamp back then. Yet fossil experts claim to have discovered remains dating back to 50 million years ago. It is claimed to be one of the only three sea shell cemetery site in the world.

6. Krabi elephant sanctuary
Krabi elephant sanctuary offers a new home for over tired elephants who have worked for the logging and tourism industry. If you’re an elephant lover then you should visit this sanctuary in Krabi where you get to interact, bathe and feed these elephants and spend quality time with them in their natural habitat.

7. Take a Thai cooking lesson

The “four island” trip is a popular day trip from Ao Nang where people are taken to the group of islands closest to the coach. The four islands are Koh poda, Koh gai, Koh tub and Koh mor and also the tour stops off at the beautiful Phra bang cave beach on the Railay peninsula.
