Travel is a great experience that helps one grow in many ways. Women are always afraid to travel solo and there are many issues for that especially safety. Staying safe is very important, but as a woman travelling alone is a great feeling as it helps one become more confident. Here are 10 reasons for women to go backpacking solo:

When you are alone you are very open to change in plans and take things on the road as they come. If you hold your nerve and don’t let fear grip you, then you can conquer every situation that you find yourself in. Being able to tide over whatever comes your way while on the trip is also a good preparation for life where often many unforeseen situations creep up.

2. Creativity is inspired

The mind opens in a myriad of ways while one is in the lap of nature. The mundane of a 9-5 job and the hamster wheel of work and rushing to and from it is broken. One can think and the sky is literally the limit with stress a million miles away. New ideas are continually popping up and if you are on the watershed of seeking something new in life, this trip alone could prove to be your breakthrough.

3. Become more confident

Many women are unaware of their own strengths and what they are really capable of. On a solo backpacking trip, the focus is on you. Every situation has only one hero, that is you. The place which is calling your name and asking you to immerse yourself in the beauty and charm, meet its locals and see its marvels helps you become stronger – a more holistic person.

5. Overcome weakness

Just as every person has their strengths, there are also the weaknesses of mortal woman that one has to deal with. Like that famous quote says, ‘To become strong, you must first face your weakness’ and that is what travelling alone does to you. It helps you first know what your cons are and then it helps you evolve to be someone who can tide over them and in some cases come out victorious overcoming them.

6. New friends

On the road, there are new friends to be made and interesting people to meet. When you backpack alone, you tend to socialise more. The locals, fellow travellers as well as some animal friends will all be your guides to help you with queries and doubts that you have. The friends you make while travelling tend to be close bonds that often are friends for life – this could be true with the people who travel with you as part of the backpacking group or the people you meet while discovering the place.

You are the boss when backpacking solo and this makes you become more stronger as a person. You realise that you can handle responsibilities and in a sense through the trip you grow. The decisions at home that you have made are something that you will reflect upon – relationships, career, education, etc. Without your mind open to inspiration in many ways, there is an inner urge to get out of the shell and bask in your new found freedom.

There are many things in life that we tend to take for granted and not pay much heed to. But when backpacking alone, there is more time to take an inward journey. Yes, your family – parents especially will be worried about your whereabouts and safety – but the experience of a journey all alone is something that boosts you in a wonderful way. You see the world in a new way and realise that you are so blessed. Your morale is much higher and you begin to know your true worth.

10. Memories for a lifetime

You will see things that you would never have otherwise, meet people who you would have never spoken to and discover a new you, which would be closeted your whole life.
