10 Fun places to visit in Bhandardara, Maharashtra

Bhandardara is a few hours away from the bustling metropolis of Mumbai and the city of Pune. It is also close to Nashik making it an ideal place to drive to for a short break. The village is an ideal stopover for pilgrims going to Shirdi. Here are some places to see around the picturesque place.

1. Arthur Lake Bhandardara

One of the top things to do in Bhandardara is camping by the lake side. Arthur Lake is one of the most renowned tourist spots in Bhandardara. Situated between the Western Ghats adds as a contributing factor making it aesthetically beautiful. People prefer spending their time watching the serene nature with BBQ to go with it.  

2. Sandhan Valley Trekking:

Best known as the second largest valley in Asia, Sandhan Valley is a true call for people who are fond of adventure. The 100 ft tall mountains on either side with water streams oozing out attracts trekkers. This place also has rock climbing and rappelling for the super sporty ones who visit Bhandardara.

3. Wilson Dam:

This dam is considered as the best architectural work of 1910. It spreads across the River Pravara, built at a height of 150 m above sea-level in Bhandardara. The path leading towards the dam is surrounded by tall trees and deep green woods with breathtaking view. During an early winter morning, the fog spreads like a blanket of cloud over the water surface. Sipping a cup of hot ‘chai’ would just be perfect to give peace your mind.  

4. Ratangad Fort Trekking:

Ratanwadi village serves as the start point of the trek in Bhandardara. Densely covered with grass and thick woods during monsoon makes this place more popular. This place is best for photographers having interest in landscape shoots.  

5. Umbrella Waterfall:

This place should be on your priority to see during the monsoon in Bhandardara. When Wilson dam crosses its water capacity the water over flows over the semicircle rocks, making it look like an umbrella. The naturally formed rock and the water falling from the height of 500ft appears like an umbrella, justifying its name as the Umbrella waterfall. 

6. Kalsubai Trek:

Situated at the height of 5600ft, Kalsubai is the highest peak of Maharashtra. The trek is a bit difficult but worth it. The place is blessed with clear water streams and mesmerising waterfalls. It also has a small temple of goddess Kisubai at its summit. 

7. Amruteshwar Temple:

One of the best examples of ancient stone sculpting and carving,  Amruteshwar is a 1000 years old temple build using black stone. This place is exceptionally uniques because of the hot spring below the Shiv Ling. People who idolises lord Shiva generally do visit this place.  

8. Harishchandragad trekking:

The fort is situated at an altitude of 4665 ft and was part of the Maratha empire. Located in Malshej Ghat, it attracts trekkers and hikers. The path to the fort has many temples making the trek even better.  

9. Randha falls:

The magnificent waterfall is even better during the monsoon. Pravara river falling from the height of 170 ft, making it the third largest waterfall in Maharashtra.  

10. Fireflies festival:

Watching fire flies amidst the dark night is just like a dream come true. This festival is usually during the months of May and June every year. it is a must visit for kids because it’s just like a fairy tale come true.
