10 Fun experiences in Langza, Spiti Valley

After exploring the cafe connected by the highest motorable road in Komic, posting postcards from the world’s highest Indian post office in Hikkim next is the remote village of Langza in Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh.

#1. In Langza you’d almost feel like a nomad as you experience living in one of the highest inhabited villages in the world with villagers in their humble homestay.

#2.Some of us may have experienced ploughing during summer vacations in our villages while most of us didn’t get to enjoy that in our childhood. In Langza you can relive your memories or create new ones while ploughing with the villagers who would be more than happy to let one enjoy this experience.

#3.The remains or impression of prehistoric marine animals and plants embedded in rocks and preserved in petrified form also known as fossils is what you may be lucky enough to find or simply buy from the locals. Instead of getting it the easy way by buying, go fossil hunting with the kids and enjoy being a kid again.

#4.You may find yourself awake early in the morning in Langza trying to breathe more than usual as you most probably might feel some difficulty in normal breathing at an altitude of 14,500 feet above sea-level.

Langza donkey ride

#5.Just a few minutes of hiking uphill from the village of Langza, you will find the beautiful and majestic Buddha statue built between 2002 – 2005 with a budget of Rs 11 lakhs. This statue is also visible from the car while approaching the village.

#6.Once you soak in the beauty of the majestic Buddha statue, allow yourself to enjoy hot tea accompanied by the chilly wind right next to the Buddha statue. There is a small tea stall with a humble couple who serve you the basics such as Maggie and tea.

Langza home stay

#7.You’ll find the mountains mostly black in colour. These black mountains and most of Spiti were earlier submerged in the Tethys Sea before the continents were formed. If you search well you will find a fossil to take as a souvenir on any of these black mountains.

#8.You’d be surprised to know that this village wouldn’t disappoint you in case you have an urge to intoxicate yourself to beat the cold a little. You could find the local alcohol called “Aarakh” which is cheap but works its magic. A definite try for those who drink.

Sheep’s back home in Langza

#9.Watching a cattle herd pass by is a different joy in itself. Seeing the lambs and calves make their way through the farm along with the herd will definitely bring a smile to your face.

#10.Though at 4420 meters high above sea level, don’t be surprised to find other travellers here as well.
