Now known as Alappuzha, the town is the administrative capital of Kerala. Here’s what you can do when in Alleppey.

1. Alleppey Houseboat stay

3. Visit the light house 

The Alleppey lighthouse offers a beautiful view of the beach town from the top. The climb is a little tough but the sight one can see is totally worth it. There is also a small museum that offers a look into the history of the lighthouse.

The beach with its golden sand and cool waters is a great place to relax. The sunset on the beach is beautiful. The eateries along the beach offer tasty food which is a mix of authentic Keralite cuisine and Italian food. The street food on the beach is also very tasty – do try that out.

The birds by the lagoons are a sight to behold. While on the lagoon be sure to keep an eye for the different species who live along with the water bodies.

6. Shop in the market

The banana chips of different varieties are a must by from the markets of Alleppey. The spices are also of different varieties that are available in the markets. Be sure to bargain while shopping.

7. Kayak or canoe ride

Besides a houseboat ride, the lagoons of Alleppey are a great place to kayak and canoe ride. The experience is a must-have while here.

8. Enjoy an Ayurveda spa treatment

For those aching muscles and stress from daily work, an authentic Ayurveda spa treatment is the best cure. The town of Alleppey offers a great opportunity to sample these.

9. Indulge your taste buds on seafood

The seafood available in Alleppey is Kerala’s best. From big prawns to crabs to lobsters – name the fish and you will find it here. Locals are happy to cook them for you for a reasonable fee.
