Nature’s best marvel: The 1 waterfall near Tosh

Tosh is a beautiful little village located at the far bend of the Parvati Valley. Overlooking the gushing Parvati river and the field laden valley around it, Tosh is a place to be on your bucket list when traveling to the peaceful lower Himalayas.

Altitude of Tosh

Situated on an altitude of 7900 ft or 2400 m ASL, the quaint village of Tosh offers breathtaking views of the snow capped upper Himalayas. One can reach Tosh directly by a car if traveling by private transport or one can catch a bus to Barshaini from anywhere in the valley and hike the incline for 30 minutes to reach the village.

Upon first viewing Tosh, the village greets you with views of wooden and brick houses all decorated with bright colors and delicate intricate patterns placed on “floors” of land hugging the mountainside. Locals are seen roaming about, completing their daily tasks and socializing with each other at local hotspots. The roar of the river flowing below drowns out all other noises and surrounds the entire valley with a constant relaxing white noise.

Cafes

The village of Tosh is filled with hippie cafes and guesthouses and has a constant rush of tourists and backpackers traveling in and out. Some of the attractions here include the views, the waterfall, psychedelic cafes, parties, campsites and the various hikes that can be started from here.

The waterfall can be seen from the mid levels of Tosh all the way to the lower levels. The sound of the waterfall can be heard from the top itself. A small peek from the top of Tosh is visible as well. The trek to the waterfall of Tosh takes around 7-10 minutes of walking time. One must walk downhill from the outermost trail of the village to reach the waterfall. You’ll be winding through a slim trail through the side of the mountain and the sounds of the waterfall get louder the closer you get to it.

Area

The area around the waterfall is rocky and beautiful. There are chairs set up around the stream where one can enjoy a cup of coffee or a bowl of maggi.

The waterfall gushes with a roar during the summer with a flow force that can break dams. It can be slightly risky to sit in the stream during this time period. During the winters, the waterfall flows calmly, emitting bursts of cold air all over the place. The clear, glacial water of the waterfall is a great resource to freshen up or fill your bottles.

Trail

One can hike further down the trail and it leads to an iron bridge which crosses over the flowing river that in turn creates the waterfall. The beauty and ambiance of the place makes it irresistible to visit and difficult to leave. The peace brought by the sounds of the water falling and gushing over the rocks takes the place to a whole new level. One can enjoy a beverage and some calm flowing music in the early hours of the morning near the waterfall.

Tosh guest house

The chill spot at the waterfall is popular as people usually come here to relax after a long day or some, those who trek to Kheerganga come to start their day fresh with a warm tea and omelete before heading for the dangerous 13km trek.

One must definitely visit the Tosh waterfall before leaving the village to get the complete feel of the locals blessed life in the lap of nature.
