Himachal’s unspoilt secret: Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Located 70 kilometres from Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh is Tirthan Valley. It is at 1600 metres ASL. Tirthan derives its name from the Tirthan River which originates from the icy cold glacier of the snow-capped mountain Hanskund located in The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP).

Tirthan, unlike Parvati Valley, has not become commercialised yet. It is an ideal destination in Himachal to relax and unwind in nature’s lap. One can sit by the crystal clear icy cold waters of Tirthan River for hours. It’s a dense stretch of pine trees and uncharted terrain are a nature lover’s paradise.

Besides offering spectacular vistas, Tirthan is also the best place for bird watching in Himachal Pradesh. Tirthan River has an abundance of trout fish and stretches from Banjar to Bathad and is filled with deciduous forest. The best time to visit this place is from May to October.

Home to the Great Himalayan National Park, Tirthan has lots of trekking along with adventure sports, camping. The base trek to GHNP starts from the village of Gushaini which is an 8-kilometre trek from there to the entry point of GHNP. The trail runs through the villages of Ropa, Khuncha and the trail is through uncharted terrain without any signboards.
