Sunset in Gokarna

Gokarna vs Goa: The comparison

Gokarna is just three hours from Goa. Not many people know about this place though it is just a few hours from India’s famous party hub. Gokarna has many things to offer like Goa or even better than Goa. Clean beaches and crystal clear water are what is missing in Goa.

Gokarna is less crowded than Goa. People who want to spend some quality or stay in peace should visit. It is the best place to spend your vacation by the beach and relax from your daily routine.

Paradise beach Gokarna

Gokarna

is also known as the temple town. There are many temples around Gokarna and in the town from Mahabaleshwar temple to Mahaganpati temple. Murudeshwar town which is famous for its giant Shiva statue is nearby.

Hiking is the best option to reach from one beach to another in Gokarna. Many famous beaches are connected with each other by small hills. So you don’t have to take or hire any vehicle like Goa to reach from one beach to another beach. One of the best views is of the beaches and Arabian sea. You can just sit and enjoy the sunset from one of the best points in Gokarna.

Sunset at Gokarna

Gokarna is much cheaper than Goa. Goa has become the touristy and business market whereas Gokarna is still not that commercialise. It is still growing as a tourist place but at a slow pace. This is the reason why Gokarna is cheap as compared to Goa. You can rent a room under ₹500 that too near the beach and on the beach offseason. Food is also cheap as compared to Goa. You can save your money or extend your vacation in Gokarna.

The best time to visit Gokarna is from November to April. As we know the summer of South India is the worst summer in India so going to a beach for a holiday that too at 40° temperature one can only imagine. Plus the humidity can ruin all your plans. The monsoon rains are like cats and dogs so again planning a monsoon trip is a bad idea. Always plan to visit between November to April.

Kudle Beach is well connected to all major cities by bus and train. Major towns are well connected with this town by rail and roadways. Karnataka state transport bus service has regular buses from Bangalore, Hyderabad, Udupi and Goa. There are many private bus operators that operate weekend buses from Mumbai and Pune.

The major crowd is from Israel and Russia. Unlike Goa here also you will find foreign tourists but mostly here there are Israelis and Russians more than Indian tourists. They stay and work here in exchange for a free stay. Sometimes you will see them selling souvenirs on the beach and in the flea market as well.

Gokarna main beach

You can cover the temple town on foot. Yes, the town is much smaller as compared to other towns. Nearby there are small markets near Gokarna bus depot where you will find some cheap guest houses as they are in the town not near the beaches

Make sure you visit this place before it becomes commercial.
