As I stepped off the bus and onto the dusty streets of Gokarna, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and adventure. This small coastal town in Karnataka, India, has been on my bucket list for years, and I was finally here to explore its hidden beaches, ancient temples, and laid-back vibe.
Day 1: Arrival and Beach Hopping for Gokarna backpacking trip
I arrived in Gokarna early in the morning and checked into my budget-friendly guesthouse. After freshening up, I set off to explore the town’s famous beaches. Kudle Beach, with its picturesque views of the surrounding hills, was my first stop. The beach was quiet and serene, with only a few fellow travelers soaking up the sun. Next, I headed to Om Beach, which was bustling with activity.
The beach is famous for its unique shape, which resembles the Hindu symbol of Om. I spent the afternoon swimming and sunbathing before heading back to my guesthouse for a relaxing evening.
Being a seafood lover this place for heaven for me as I wandered around a cafe hopping along Kudle beach to taste some of the best seafood. The calamari fry and surmai fry along with the prawns butter garlic were the best
Day 2: Temple Trek and Sunset Chasing
The next morning in my Gokarna backpacking trip, I started off with some simple South Indian breakfast in Pai Restaurant which serves really good idli, dosa and filter coffee. This was the perfect start to my day. I was so full that i thought I would even have to skip lunch.
After breakfast I set off early to explore the ancient temples of Gokarna. The trek to Mahabaleshwara Temple was steep and challenging, but the views from the top were breathtaking. After exploring the temple, I made my way to the nearby Shiva Temple, which was surrounded by lush greenery and offered stunning views of the surrounding hills.
In the evening, I headed back to Om Beach to watch the sunset. The sky was painted with hues of orange and pink as the sun dipped into the sea. It was a truly magical moment that I won’t forget.
Day 3: Murudeshwar and Maranalli
On my final day in Gokarna, I again went for some South Indian breakfast started off this time with set dosa which is a 3 set dosa with sambar and chutney. I tried the hot flavoured milk for a change and it was simply yummy.
I decided to explore some of the nearby attractions on my Gokarna backpacking trip. First, I headed to Murudeshwar, taking the local bus to the railway station and then the train to Murureshwar. A small town famous for its massive Lord Shiva statue. The statue stands tall on a hill overlooking the Arabian Sea, and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
Next, I made my way to Maranalli, a small village famous for its waterfalls and scenic views. The hike to the waterfall was challenging, but the views were well worth it. After spending some time exploring the village, I headed back to Gokarna for a relaxing evening.
