1. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Located in the Southwestern part of Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the few extra ordinary places where the endangered gorilla mountains are located. the UNESCO site is home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population that are protected in the four sectors – Ruhijja, Nkuringo, Buhoma and Rushaga sector. 

Apart from the mountain gorillas, Bwindi is also a haven to other wildlife including the forest elephants, giant forest hogs, duikers, golden cats, and over 350 bird species, including the African green broadbill.

The wildlife species in the park can be watched during different park activities including gorilla trekking, gorilla habituation (allows one spend upto 4 hours with a gorilla family), bird watching safaris and nature walks. 

2. Kibale National Park

Also known as the Primate world’s Capital, Kibale Forest is another destination to visit for wildlife safaris. The park protects 13 primate species – chimpanzees, red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, olive baboons, grey-cheeked mangabeys and over 370 bird species, including the African pitta.

Located close to Murchison Falls National Park, the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda to see the wild southern white rhinos. When you combine the sanctuary with other destinations like Murchison falls National Park, you can be assured that you have completed the Big five safari experience in Uganda. Apart from rhinos, the sanctuary also protects other few mammal and bird species. 

5. Kidepo Valley National Park

The wet season is always in the months of March to May and October to November. These are best for bird watching safaris but makes the trekking and wildlife viewing tough.
