9 eco-tips every backpacker should know

When you are down the road backpacking, there are important things to keep in mind to ensure that you enjoy nature and leave it as clean as you found it. Here are some eco-tips to keep in mind while travelling across India and the world:

Public Transport

  • The best way to save nature is to travel by public transport. The emission is low as many people travel together and you can hear a number of tales of the land from locals and fellow travellers who also use public transport. Another option is to ride a bike or walk.

Reusable bottles and bags

  • Rather than keep on buying water bottles, carrying a sturdy bottle which you refill along the road while travelling is a great way to reduce the plastic around. Also, a backpack which can be reused helps reduce the use of plastic bags which get thrown and add to damage to nature.

Online maps

Instead of opting for a paper map which once you get familiar with the place or once the journey is overturns to trash it is better to use your phone and refer to an online map. The map also helps thanks to Global Position System (GPS) to know exactly where you are and where you have to go.

Do not litter

  • One of the main things to keep in mind while on the road is to not litter. Stock up your trash in a bag which you can dispose of when you find a dustbin. Though it is easy to litter, acting responsibly while backpacking is a must. Try and encourage others to also not litter.

Use eco-friendly toiletries

Langza home stay

Most of the toothpaste, shampoos and soaps that we use are filled with many chemicals and are not environmentally friendly. While travelling it is best to check and buy eco-friendly toiletries.

Save water

Use less water while having a bath and washing clothes while on the trip. Take shorter showers, turn off the tap while shaving and brushing your teeth, and re-use towels for multiple days.

Electricity saving

When you leave your room on the trip be sure to turn off the lights, heat or air-condition and TV. Ensure that your room is not cleant every day. This will save on harsh chemical cleaning products being used as well as the electricity of vacuuming and washing bed linens.

Be a traveller, not a tourist

Choose while travelling to mingle with locals and be a true traveller rather than a tourist. The local music, art and cuisine are worth trying out which helps one get into the roots of a place better enjoying the experience as well as getting better exposure.

Limited Technology

  • Switch off from the social media and technology which does not allow you to connect with nature. Log off and dive into nature and appreciate the splendor that surrounds you. The less you use technology the more it will help you appreciate the finer things in life.
