The land of landscapes: Mount Abu, Rajasthan

Located on the border of the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat in the Aravalli Hills, Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan. Mt Abu is located in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan.

The nearest railway station is Abu Road which is 25 kms away from Mt Abu.  There are plenty of rent-a-car-taxis, cabs, private and state transport buses that ply to Mt Abu on a frequent basis. If there is a large group of people the most convenient option is to travel by a jeep as it saves a lot of money and time.

The best way to get to Mt Abu is either walking or by hiring a bike. However, walking around in Mt Abu is the best thing to do as everything is at a walking distance from each other. Walking around Mt Abu helps to witness the beauty and to soak in the picturesque landscape.

Mount Abu

Mt Abu has a lot of temples and one can visit them while in the hill station. The Dilwara Temples are one the most famous temples in Mount Abu. A series of Jain temples, the Dilwara Temples have beautiful carvings made entirely of marbles. Locals claim that these temples were built between the 11th and 13th century.

Nakki Lake is another tourist attraction in Mount Abu. The lake is surrounded by hills on all sides, and people can go boating in this lake at an affordable rate with paddle boating and rowing as options.

The Guru Shikar is the highlight of Mount Abu and it is the highest peak of the Aravalli range 5650 above sea level. The view from the peak of Guru Shikar is mesmerizing and gives a great view of Mt Abu and the surrounding areas.

For all those people who love hiking Achalgarg is the place to be, it is a fort but it also has Hindu temples in and around it. It’s a perfect spot to hike and one can find their own trails on their way up and see a number of temples.

There is no specific delicacy that represents Mt Abu but the mouth-watering rabdi (a yellow colored sweet) that is sold at Abu Road station is a must have as it is a yummy treat. This delicacy is worth all the hype and is sold at an economical price.

Home stays in Mount Abu is the best way to understand the lifestyle of the locals. It helps by living a day or more with them in their houses as their culture and way of life becomes more evident.
