10 things to do in Silvassa

Silvassa, the capital of the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli has many interesting places to see and things to do. Here are some of them 

1. Silvassa Lake visit

Vanganga Lake which is situated near the Island Gardens offers boating as well as a peaceful setting with flowerbeds and lush green gardens around the lake. The eateries on the shores attract many visitors who like munching while admiring the beauty of this setting.

2. Stroll in Island garden

The area around the Vanganga Lake, Island Garden can leave one spellbound for hours with its wooden bridges, thatched huts and boat rides. The sea of flowers and the path within it provide a good track for joggers. This site has been used multiple times in Bollywood movies because of its beauty.

3. Get lost in Hirwa Van gardens

With a name that means Green Forest, a perfect description of the place. Hirwa Van Garden is a popular picnic spot with cascading waterfalls and colourful flowers and plants interspersed. These offer visitors a pleasant sight to laze and relax.

4. See the King of beasts

The Lion Safari Wildlife Park is one of the most visited lion safaris in India. It is a part of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Wildlife Sanctuary that is spread over an area of 25 hectares. It is home to the Asiatic lion. The safari is a 40-minute drive with tickets priced at Rs 25 per person. Note that payment is only accepted by cards, no cash payments. There are also deer and their various variants which can also be seen by visitors.

5. Rest at Tapovan tourist complex

The famous historic temple of Lord Siva is located around 18 km from Silvassa and 2 km from Khanvel at Bindrabin. Many devotees come here to seek the blessing of the deity. The complex has cottages, a restaurant and amusement park with fountains and a well-laid garden for the tourists. This is a great place to lounge and rest amidst a flurry of activity.

6. Pray at Our lady of Piety church

Built-in 1886-89, Our Lady of Piety Church perfectly showcases Portuguese architecture. The exquisite design stands strong as a testimony to the foreign former rulers of the area’s architectural skills. This church is a major attraction for historical and architectural enthusiasts.

7. Time travel at the tribal museum

The Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is predominantly inhabited by tribals. The museum showcases their ornaments, musical instruments, fishing and hunting gadgets, agricultural and household articles and other artifacts. The tribal way of life is displayed through life-size models, wedding dresses and photographs of ceremonies. The museum is popular with tourists as it offers a glimpse of native tribes and their vibrant culture under one roof.

8. Dudhani dam visit

The construction of Madhuban dam on the Daman Ganga has resulted in the formation of a water body in Dudhani. This has grown to become a popular destination for water sports. Scenic landscape and the opportunity to closely know and interact with the native tribes is what the Dudhani dam visit allows.

9. Chill in Khanvel

For nature lovers, Khanvel allows one the chance to get lost in the quietness of the valley, to relax and refresh themselves in the lap of nature. A crystal blue river flowing by, a forest with rich biodiversity in close proximity, ancient history and the tales of history are all here. With the noisy rush of River Sakartod on one side and the sound of animals in the forest, the cool breeze blowing by the sea are all calming.

10. Shopping spree

A paradise for those looking for handmade products. Kilvani Road in Silvassa main market has many handmade products like paper bags, these include Warli paintings also. Be sure to bargain in order to get a good deal as many of the things sold here are overpriced.
