10 Creative things to do while camping outdoors

Camping season is back. The monsoon winds have receded and it’s time camp under clear blue skies. There’s a lot that one can do while camping. A long list of outdoor activities come in mind when we mention camping. Here’s an alternate list of things you could also do, when in the woods:

1. Learning to cook while camping

Camping gives you the opportunity to experiment and cook the dishes that you might want to learn. A well-lit bonfire just makes the process of cooking even more fun. You may also receive additional help from the people around you, to help you cook better. And the end results are (most of the times) a delicious snack to enjoy your camping hours.

2. Listening to your jam

Camping gives you a chance to experiment with your DJ’ing skills. It might also invite fellow campers to either sing along or dance to songs that are being played. And you might just end up connecting with new people with similar music interests.

3. Playing games

Playing outdoor sports is a routine among campers, involving a lot of running around. There’s also the alternative to just sit in circles and play Uno, card games, Jenga or any of the popular board games available (Although, we’re not sure about Monopoly). And since it’s not very physically demanding, it’s might be just easier for new campers to join the game. There is also an option to play indoor games like rock, paper, scissors.

4. Playing a musical instrument (that you’ve always owned, but seldom used)

Besides drums and a few other musical instruments, most of them are portable enough to be carried around for camping. Playing your musical instrument during camping sometimes assures an audience if you play well. You also get enough time in leisure to devote to practicing your musical skills.

5. Reading an unfinished book

Camping also offers a good time to complete reading the book that you’ve not been able to finish. You can simply just lie down on a camping mat and enjoy the book in peace.

6. Daydreaming while stargazing

Camping is a good time to wander about in your thoughts and to let yourself de-stress. The quiet environment around might help you clear your head and let you visualize a mental to-do list for your life. It is also a good time to contemplate over events and happenings that are going on and about in your life.

7. Catching up on some sleep

Camping is a good time to snooze. Fresh air, cold winds, scenic views and a cozy environment all make for an ideal time to rest and cover-up for all the sleepless nights of the past.

8. Observing nature

In our daily lives, the flowers, bees, bugs, butterflies, birds and other critters often go unnoticed around us. And we miss out on viewing scenic sunrises and sunsets outdoors, especially when surrounded by heaps and heaps of buildings, bridges and commercial complexes. Camping gives you a good opportunity to just observe nature and its beautiful landscapes. It is also a good time to take loads and loads of photos to practice your photography skills.

9. Meditating a little

The morning hours of camps are very peaceful times. It is also a good time to meditate. It may simply mean just zoning off from all your thoughts and worries. If meditating is not your thing, then there are several other alternatives you can also try. Yoga, light outdoor exercises and morning walks are assured to energize your bodies and freshen your minds.

10. Climbing a tree

You don’t actually need a reason to climb a tree. You just need to do it because doing the same thing in the city limits might not be possible. And what harm has climbing a tree done to anyone (besides possible physical injuries). It is just a reminder of the active times in our childhood which symbolizes that happiness is, after all, a state of your mind.
