Located at a distance of about 3 km from the Nani Daman bust stop, is the famous Devka beach in Daman. This beach is best approached by foot; there is also parking space just at the entrance of the beach for both two and four wheel vehicles. Devka beach is an excellent place to spend some time from the latter half of the afternoon till sun down, since the ambiance of Devka beach is easy going and serene, it is a very nice place to relax and have some fun. One can beat the heat by taking swim in the cool water but be careful while swimming as there are rocky formations beneath the water. Walking on the beach as the waves wash your toes is a must especially for people who do not like going into the sea for a swim. When the tide is low it is possible to even venture deep into the Arabian Sea and collect shells and unique stones. The sand at Devka beach is black in color and has plenty of pebbles; the sand here resembles gravel more than normal white fine grain beach sand. This is a distinct feature all along the coastline. It is common to see laborers filling sacks of this gravel sand and then loading the sacks into trucks. This sand is in great demand at construction sites and is used as a mixture along with cement for the constriction of buildings. All along the beach there are plenty of street vendors selling ice-cream, snacks in the form of chaat and chips. There are also a few vendors who will offer to bring you a bottle of beer at a very affordable price. It is best to avoid drinking beer at the beach since there are police raids at times which can prove very costly. At Devka beach, in the evening time fishermen can be seen preparing their boats and fishing nets for an early start the following morning by untangling their nets and getting their boats closer to the sea. At Devka beach, the most popular attraction is a beachside amusement park that has been developed which includes a kids’ corner with a toy train, merry-go round and large garden, fast food centre and ice cream parlour. The multicoloured fountains in the park provide an enchanting sight. Pony and camel rides can also be enjoyed on the sand. Most of the luxury hotels and resorts in Nani Daman are in close proximity to Devka beach, along one road. The sea facing restaurants of these hotels are very popular given the cool evenings and sea breeze. Avoid going to Devka beach in the mornings since the heat at the beach is unbearable. Also do not litter and dirty the beach, use the dustbins that are placed around the beach and keep it clean. Devka beach is a really good place to spend some time just sitting and enjoying the beauty of the Arabian Sea and having some quality recreational time with family and friends.
