Awas beach sunset

Serene village to laze by the beach: Awas, Alibaug

The idyllic Alibaug coast is located just 120 kms away from the Mumbai mainland. There are two options to get there. The ferry service from Gateway of India or Ferry Wharf to either Mandwa or Rewas from where there are bus services or share rickshaws to Awas on the Alibaug. The other option is to drive down via the Pen-Alibaug route.

The ferry option is faster and more economical. Awas Beach which attached to Kihim Beach which is two kms away is a nice virgin beach on one of the most crowded coasts. Mandwa Beach and jetty is just 8 kms away. The village of Awas is famous for the Nagoba Mandir where there is a big festival 15 days after Diwali.

Awas

A secluded stretch of beach with casuarina and Suru trees lining its shores, Awas has a vast stretch of sandy beach and some rocky parts too. Awas beach is far less crowded and is the best beach to be in if you are looking to be away from everything in this part of Alibaug.

One can watch the sunset or take a long leisurely walk on the beach. The village also is a nice and quiet place with the villagers offering affordable home stays and economical fish, vegetable and chicken thali for food.

Awas

Early in the morning, a number of birds can be seen fishing and the village is a good place to see some spectacular migratory birds. For bird watchers and nature lovers, Awas is a blissful retreat. The ideal place to destress with the cool beach breeze and the idyllic beach, Mumbaikars and Puneites will have a soothing time here.

One can reach late and leave early from here, due to the proximity of Awas to Mandwa and Rewas. The village is ideal for a weekend stay to just unwind and enjoy the sun, surf and rural life. The beach is best visited in the morning as the water goes behind in the evening. Like most of the other beaches in this area, one has to walk a long distance to get to the waters.

Fish thali at Awas beach

The sand is sandy and not hard and mucky like the other beaches, so this is a relief for those seeking to play with the sand. Sandcastles can be made and the beach is nice to sit on as well. There are a number of rocky spots and while going in the water, one has to be careful of these. Locals can be seen fishing throughout the day and even offer visitors a chance to tag along and see how they catch fish.

Awas

Awas beach home stay

is a must-visit on the Alibaug coast for those who want a weekend to themselves away from the hustle and bustle of routine city life. There are not many activities as compared to Alibaug and Mandwa beaches, so do not expect banana boat rides and jet skiing opportunities, here. Nonetheless, Awas offers that much needed time to oneself which many crave for.
