10 facts about Sangla, Himachal Pradesh

Sangla is a popular hill town located in the Baspa Valley of Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh. It is situated in the range of the greater Himalayas that gives it a cold climate. One has to book his or her accommodation in advance to enjoy a safe stay. You can choose a hotel in Sangla that range from camps, resorts, as per your preference. Located close to the Tibetan border, this place is covered with forest slopes and mountains.

• It is well connected to Shimla – the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Once you reach Shimla, there are HRTC buses available at Shimla bus stand. Mostly these buses leave from Chandigarh in the night then reach Shimla in the morning. The buses leave for Sangla or Rakcham in the morning around 7:00 AM from Shimla Bus stand. This bus journey is around 12 hours long but it will be adventurous for sure.

• The altitude of Sangla Valley is around 3000 metres.
• Best time to visit is from May to September. This when there are pleasant days. From October to April, days are cold.
• There is full network available in Sangla, but we suggest to use Airtel.

• The local people have a distinct culture and their own dialect, the Kinnauri language. But Hindi is also spoken.
• There is a Buddhist monastery situated in the heart of Sangla town.  As per monks of the monastery, it is recently built and it is a very good place to meditate and relax. Don’t miss exploring this.

The weather along with the soil are both conducive to its exclusive and superior variety and quality. A part of the population also depends on tourism.
• The valley remains closed for six months during winter from December till May when the snowfall is heavy. The old Indo-Tibet road connects Sangla to National Highway 5 at Karcham.
• A paradise for shopaholics, this place is famous for its Tibetan products made of wood carvings. Tibetan wood carving center has a good display as well as sale.
