A hike to India’s Christ the Redeemer: Flaggy, Rajasthan

Flaggy hike in Mount Abu is famous for its landscapes and trekkers from all over the country come here to trek as it has the best trails and hills.

When in Mount Abu the best people to talk to about the treks and climbs are the students and faculty of St Mary’s School. The students here trek every week and know everything about all the various climbs at Mount Abu.

All the major trekking places are situated around St Mary’s School so while going trekking students or ex-students from this school are always there. One of the most famous climbs at Mount Abu is the climb to Flaggy. It is approximately 4268 feet above sea level.

The climb to Flaggy is not very difficult if you take the normal trail, but for people who want to try something new they should experiment and find their own way up as whichever path is chosen there is no scope to get lost there. The trek should start after sunrise at around 7 am.

The way up is filled with rocks and there is a lot of wilderness so wearing proper shoes is advised. There are a lot of Ayurveda plants on the climb and a number of insects that stick to ones clothes can be found.

It is better to finish trekking before sun down as wild animals such as the sloth bear and panthers tend to dwell there and come to roam freely during the dark.

The arid trail to flaggy

While on the trek there are a number of campsites and many people can be found rock climbing at Flaggy. Usually, various schools come to camp here and learn rock climbing as well. As the climate is very pleasant one does not get very tired during the trek.

Some parts of the trek get hectic as there are many rocks to be climbed and for someone who has never trekked before it gets a little difficult. The highlight of the whole trek is the view on top where you find a smaller version of the statue of Christ the Redeemer found at Rio de Janeiro.

The statue overlooks one side of Mount Abu with open arms and the view from the top is blissful. There is a lot of dried grass there so taking a small nap there is an option too.

On the way down, people usually collect dried twigs so that they can have a small campfire before they end their day. There are also small streams where one can take a wash and get refreshed.

For those who cannot afford to go all the way to Brazil to see the beautiful Christ the Redeemer statue, they can visit Mount Abu and witness a smaller version of the masterpiece.

The best season to trek to Mount Abu is between the months of March to October as the climate is pleasant.
