We all turn a year older each year and we all have various ways we decide to celebrate our birth day. If you are someone who likes being with nature and love exploring offbeat places. Then here is the list from the Northeast of India, a place which only a very few have ever been to. But ever since Covid its becoming one of the most popular places to travel to in India.

Below is a list of offbeat places in the Northeast you can spend your birthday night or week –

Northeast Majuli

Majuli sunset

Majuli is nothing but a hidden paradise which is the world’s largest river island in the middle of the Brahmaputra river. Majuli has the feel of what Goa must have been in the 1960s without the party and drug culture. If you are someone who wants something completely out of the box for your birthday, then Majuli is the place for you. Living in an authentic bamboo hut home stay is the way to experience the special night in the Northeast.

Kaziranga

One horned rhino in Kaziranga

If wild life is what you crave for, then nothing better than spending a night or two in one of the many home stays near the forest.  A jungle safari in the western and central zone to spot the mighty one horned rhino is an absolute treat to the human eye.  If you are really having a great birthday, you might even spot a tiger which is a very rare sighting in the Northeast.

From cafe hopping to taking a boat ride in Wards lake, it’s a near perfect place to have your birthday in the Northeast.

Sohra

Cherrapunji waterfall

If you like it quiet and village type homely place is where you like it best, then there isn’t any better place than Sohra also known as Cherrapunjee. With waterfalls and root bridges, this is without doubt one of the most blessed places in terms of natural beauty in the Northeast. A night stay in Sohra will simply humble you.

Dawki

Dawki river view

Oh Dawki without doubt is the second best place to celebrate your birthday on this list. The experience is completely raw while you camp along the banks of the river Umngot and are across the India-Bangladesh border. This is arguably the best experience there is in Meghalaya when it comes to raw and rugged real camping. Quechua tents with blankets and a mask shift Indian common toilet is what you’ll have to make do with. If you can over look that it’s a birthday celebration for the ages.

Loktak

Loktak lake floating house boat

The largest lake in all of Northeast India and the best place to celebrate your birthday. Yes, who goes to Manipur? That’s the question in your head but that’s the whole point my friend, it’s the best since it’s mind blowing when you get there and the best part is you will be one of less than 20 tourists on the lake. From catching the sunrise and sunset from different hills, this is without a doubt the best experience to have.

From exploring the city on foot and then spending your afternoon at the World War 2 cemetery. It’s one of a kind experience to sit back in the graveyard and make some hard decisions in life to reboot life after your birthday holiday.

The spiritual snow wonderland in the state of Arunachal Pradesh is literally heaven on earth. If you want to have a once in a life time snow experience in a place so remote that only the very handful blessed ones have done the journey. Tawang is a mix between spirituality and nature. It’s the perfect blend.

Agartala Tripura

The capital city of the second smallest state in India, Tripura. It’s also the least traveled state in all of India from the tourist point of view. But the city has the best food in all of North East India, yes the best food isn’t in Shillong or Guwahati, it’s in Agartala.
