A lovely, relaxing and unique getaway from the chaotic daily routine is what the Mumbaikars are looking for.

Karnala Bird Sanctuary:

90% to the top of Karnala

A beautiful weekend getaway on the Mumbai-Goa highway. The Karnala bird sanctuary is blessed with the shadow of 4.8 sq.km dense forest. Also, the surrounding area is ideal for trekking and picnics. There are 150 species of birds and 37 types of avian migrants which can be found here and if you’re lucky a blink of your camera at the right time can capture the moment. One of the famous birds in the sanctuary amongst the people’s the three-toed kingfisher. The entry fee for the sanctuary is ₹30 for adults and ₹15 for children. And for people with their DSLRs, the entry fee is ₹100 for still cameras and ₹150 for video camera.

Matheran:

At an altitude of 2,516ft above sea-level in the Western ghats, one of the oldest hill stations, Matheran is the most loved and preferred scenic spots. Neral railway station is the transit point, from there you can board a toy-train to Matheran or else can take a cab halfway and then halfway trek towards the top. A ride on the Neral-Matheran toy-train is something that you should not miss. There are various hill points at the top, where one can get a mesmerising view of the sunrise and sunset. Horse-riding is something worth trying here for sure.

Karjat

At a distance of 62 kms from Mumbai, there are beautiful mountains, a fort, a mystic river, ancient rock-cut cave temples all located in the little Konkan town of Karjat. It is one of the favourite picnic-spot during the monsoon. Trekking and just wandering along with nature is the best way to have a memorable weekend.

Raigad

Having a proud and vibrant history of the Maratha King, Shivaji Maharaj, the Raigad fort is all nostalgia of the royal Maratha period. The Raigad trek is famous amongst the youth. The fort is situated at an altitude of 2700 ft above sea level on the vast and dense Sahyadri mountains. There are 1,737 stairs to climb up the fort along with the beautiful bird’s eye view.

Kolad:

If you are planning on making your weekend purely adventurous, Kolad is the place you’ll want to be. The Kundalika river flowing by the village offers some goose-bumping thrills. There are some pulsating adventure and water sports activities by the river. It is 120 kms from Mumbai and proves truly refreshing to your mind and soul.

Jawhar:

For art lovers, Jawhar is a destination for the minds of Mumbaikars where they can refill their colors of joy. Warli Paintings and traditional art here deep-rooted cultural background. Also, Jawhar also has a bunch of waterfalls which can wash your stress away in the monsoon. Jawhar is 155 kms from Mumbai.
