10 Fun things to do in Pulga, Parvati Valley

Pulga a small hippie hamlet’s in Parvati Valley which is yet to be completely explored. The village is blessed with immense greenery and natural beauty – from wooden guest houses to a never-ending ferry forest. Pulga has a lot more to offer than what meets the eye.

Here is a list of things you can do while in Pulga.

1. Hike to Pulga

As of September 2017, a short 3 km hike from Bharsheni is the only option to reach the village.  The hike is very easy and makes for an excellent walk with nature for those who don’t want to go all the way to Kheerganga.

2. Waterfalls

Along the hike to Pulga, there are two foot over bridges which you will need to cross.  Just adjacent to the bridge, are waterfalls which make perfect pit stops along the hike. Just sit and soak in the fresh air of nature.

3. Pluck apples

If you happen to backpack here during apple harvest season which starts from end of August to mid-September, the village turns into an apple paradise with red and green apples all over the trees. The villagers are more than happy to let you pluck a couple, every guest house in Pulga has at least a couple of apple trees growing in their back yard.

4. Chit-chat with locals

Since the village is still very raw and unspoilt by the heavy tourist influx, the locals from Pulga especially the older generation are ever willing to sit and have a conversation over a cup of chai. Just a simple smile is more than enough to start a conversation in the Himalayas and this village is no different.

5. Live in a wooden house

There is no better way to get a village life feel for a city dweller than to live in a wooden house. The villagers have constructed and redone a few guest houses with a complete wood make. A night stay here will surely be low on amenities but high on experience.

6. Fairy forest

If you have had a dream of just wandering aimlessly in the forest and being one with nature, the Fairy forest is the place.  Lush green grass and gigantic pine trees. Add the two together and it’s literally paradise. You can spend hours in the forest, just reading a book or playing with the furry dogs.  It’s the perfect place to de-stress.

7. Hippie Cafes

Since the village is not accessible by road, the entire village is becoming a thriving hotspot for backpackers from all over the world to spend a couple of days, if not weeks before or after they complete the hike to Kheerganga. There are plenty of cafes in Pulga but we personally recommend Boom Shankar Cafe. Slow service but the best when it comes to the real raw hippie experience.

8. Nutella Milk

Every cafe in Pulga will serve you Nutella milk better than any other place in the entire valley. It is the perfect drink to have in the night if you intend to spend a night gazing at the stars.

9. Selfie with the kids

The entire village is flooded with kids of all ages who play all day long. These kids just like the others from the village love to get clicked and will happily call the entire clan for a group picture. It’s the best time to shoot a backpacker style selfie.

10. Stay a couple of nights

Arguably, the prettiest and the nicest village in the entire valley, a day visit or even a one night halt is not enough to get a real feel of the place. You need to stay at least a couple of days more to get a real feel of the place.  It’s like Baga (Goa) in the Himalayas.
